Ok so for my sophomore year, I’m planning on taking:
AP gov/ Ap Macro
AP Bio
AP Spanish Language
AP Euro
AP Literature and Composition
IB Pre-Cal
I am a pretty good student with a 4.8 weighted and 4.0 unweighted gpa. My strengths are in math and science.
I suck at history and spanish and I’m ok with language arts.
Is it plausible to get 4s and 5s for all of the tests? Also, do you have any tips for these classes?
(btw it’s too late to change classes)
That’s a pretty bad idea imho
Have you taken any AP Classes before?
I’ve done ap world
AP Lit as a sophomore? Lol
I have to ask.
Why are you taking AP Euro, AP Lit, and AP Spanish??
To be honest with you, you probably won’t get 4s and 5s on every test unless you dedicate your life to studying AP (every day all day) if you want all 4s and 5s I suggest only taking the AP exams for the classes you are strongest in. Good luck to you lol
If your Strengths are in math and science, and your in pre-calc… your probably gonna get a bunch of B’s.
Why are you taking AP Lit? That’s meant for seniors, and even if you took it early, wouldn’t you have to take AP Lang first?
Yeah, it’s probably ap lang, I got the two confused. Btw, my strengths are in math and science but I’m pretty good at other subjects too, I’ve gotten straight a’s since first grade
It’s only you that can answer your question. 6 APs during sophomore year is a lot. How much confidence do you have? Most top 5% students in my area take 3-4 APs. Have you taken any physics, chemistry?
Colleges prefer to have 11th or 12th grade teachers to write letters of recommendation. You will need one recommendation from a humanities teacher, one from a math or science teacher. So you may want to save some language and humanities classes for 11th grade.
I find it ironic that your strength is in math, but that’s the one class your not taking an AP in.
There are not that many AP math classes and there are prerequisites before you get there. The OP is only a sophomore! Taking Pre-Calc as a sophomore is a strong math student.
@ClaremontMom the prereqs to take AP English as a sophomore are harder, than for math, especially when English isn’t the main focus.
@wcao9311 you are forgetting that AP prerequisites and order are different at every high school. You are generalizing from what happens at your school and you just can’t do that. You have no clue what the prereqs, if any, are like at the OP’s school.
You don’t have to take both AP english classes, and one is not a prereq for the other (from a college board standpoint). There is also no requirement for courses to be taken a certain year, at least from college board standpoint. For example, at some schools APUSH history is a sophomore level class, at my high school, only juniors could take it. My high you either to AP lang or AP lit senior year, and everyone was required to take English 11 honors (STEM magnet school, all core courses are honors).
Thank you @guineagirl96 (at our school there are very few AP courses a sophomore would be allowed to take at all!)
@wca09311 - my point was that a student has to go through the natural progression of math subjects before taking AP Calculus or Statistics. And there is no “AP Algebra” or “AP Geometry” so it’s not surprising that the OP would not be in an AP class in math as a sophomore. (Yes, I realize there may be some out there, but for most students precalc as a sophomore is a strong math student)
Do you have a plan for junior and senior year? Depending on your school, there may not be very many AP/advanced classes left. (I don’t know much about IB, so I don’t know if it is common to only take IBs later.)
@wonderfulreads yeah i’m planning on taking mostly IB classes junior and senior year, but i know i’m gonna take apush, ap chem, and ap physics during those two years
I had similar.
My sophmore schedule last year:
AP: Gov, Macro, Micro, Physics, Stats, Europe
Pre-IB: English, Spanish 3, Precalc
I felt it wasn’t half bad except for physics. I got a C for physics but A for the rest of the class. I think you can handle it if you put in effort
perhaps switch AP lit to AP lang.
