I am applying to UCSD and I am confused by the 6 college thing. Can someone explain which one is what? I am applying most likely for a bioengeering or biology related major, so which college is best for me? Thanks.

Use the search function. It's great, especially when you're inquiring about one of the most-discussed things on the UCSD board.

yea, just look at the other pages from the forum..many people has asked about the colleges in the past week or two.

but just for general knowledge, muir has the most flexible GEs and is the best college out of all of the 6

-from a muiron

is it true that most of the engineers are in muir?

warren [10 char]

I'd say go to warren if you're an engineer and muir if you're anything else.

you should go to the ucsd website and visit each college webpage. also check the MANY MANY posts about the 6 colleges that are already on this forum

How come I'm the only one that thinks revelle is good for science majors? Every single one of my lower division science/math courses for a biology major overlaps with revelle GE requirements, it's so fitting. The only thing troubling is the 3 years/semesters of a language deal, but most people got that covered.

oh, ur not the only one kkiiji, thats wat i think too...but i think alot people know that revelle is good for science majors too..well people i talked to tho.

you mean 4 quarters of a language (or 1.3 semesters) - a simple "3" on a language AP test already gets rid of 3 quarters' worth of the requirement.

Ah in community college it's semesters, I forgot the system is different. Man I tried to take the AP test in college, but they were all like "No you're too old!" :(

i quit at spanish iii, so i guess im def going to avoid revelle

Spanish III is what you need actually. So if you got a C or above on all 3 years of spanish, then you're good to go.

kkiiji, I took spanish 1 as a middle schooler, did two years of spanish in high school. Does that work?

Yes, yes it does. I was actually mistaken before. You only need your THIRD year of Spanish to be C or above, meaning for Spanish III, if you had C or above for both semesters that year, you are good to go.

A word of warning though, Revelle is known for slight lack of social life, so if you're straight out of highschool and going to be living in the dorms, and you are really looking forward to the college experience, people generally would advice you to stay away from Revelle. I don't know personally because I'm not in UCSD yet, but this is what I've gathered from my findings.

The good thing about Revelle once again is that it has rather convenient GEs for science majors.

Hi, I am a bio major and I've also found that Revelle is the most suited college for me cuz the reqs for my major cover all of Revelle's reqs. Freakin awesome!

As for the language req, you can also use an SAT subject test in a foreign language to void it. the score has to be 700 and up. That's what I'm gonna use.

wait, so if i get into revelle under bioengineering, my GE load is less than my GE load if I was in muir?

I don't have a foreign language SAT, I have Math, Chem, and Bio Sat IIs and i finished 3rd year spanish in sophomore year.

Yes, thats basically how it is for me, cuz many science major reqs overlap with Revelle's reqs. But, I am a transfer student and I'm doing the IGETC plus for Revelle.

If you're entering as a freshman, you should look at the freshmen reqs and doublecheck and compare for Muir and Revelle. Then check your reqs for your major and see which classes overlap.

Here's the link: Prospective Students: UCSD's Six Colleges: Core Curricula and General Education Requirements

It appears to me that for Muir, you'd have to do additional writing classes.

Also, check this link out for the language requirement:
Revelle College - UCSD

so yeah, do some research and weigh out the different reqs of each college and see which one would add up to the least amount of coursework for you.

Revelle has 5 Quarters of Writing, 0-4 Quarters of Foreign Language, 3 Quarters of Social Sciences [All the stuff that bores me]
Muir Has 6 Humanities, 2-3 Writing, 3 Social Science
Warren has 2 writing and 1 ethnics and society.

Look like Warren would actually be the best for me?
I have a 5 in AP Stat, Chem, Bio and a 4 in English

Will be taking AP Lit, Psychology, Econ/Gov, Calc BC, Physics tests.

Although I plan only to use probably the statistics, government, psych, and english lang + lit credits.
