6 Outrageously Overpriced Products

I agree with blueiguana that many of the “green” initiatives are bogus. They are an attempt to save that company money–that savings isn’t passed on to the customer and the same amount of paper/ink/energy is being used, and paid for, by someone else.

I don’t understand why more students, and people in general, don’t use laser jet printers. The non-professional ones (home-level grade and perfect for students) can be purchased very cheaply. We paid $65 for a HP laser jet printer for S. The intake and output trays fold over and it takes up little room. Cartridges may initally cost a bit more, but will last 2-3 YEARS with the average amount a student prints.

I do have a color inkjet for when I absolutely need color, but 99+% of my printing is done via laser jet. The quality is much crisper too.

I have two Brother Laser Jet printers - black. They each cost just under $100. The drum was going out on the first printer, which was going to cost more than the cost of a new printer, hence, the second one, which is the next model up. The first one lasted almost two years before the drum was failing. It is a great printer. They both are.

I bought a replacement drum on ebay for $30.

I used to buy the pricey cartridge refills at Office Depot for around $50 apiece. Now I buy them in bulk with an ebay seller for about $20 each. They seem to last as long (so far), and I get about 2500-3000 sheets per cartridge. Prints beautifully.

I need to print a lot for my business. Even though I try not to, in an effort to save paper, there is simply still the need to print. I had priced out what I needed to do with Kinkos, but it was far more expensive and inconvenient in the long run.

I sent both my boys off to college with HP inkjets. Will send daughter with a laser printer. If she needs to print in color, she can either go to library or print center, or see if a roommate can “share” with her. I am tired of buying cartridges that don’t last that long and dry up over breaks!

Both s’s wanted and used printers in their room. And both moved off campus and a printer was essential. Last year younger s decided to try to “share” roommates printer. Apparently it didn’t have all the features he wanted, and his printer that he left home went back with him in his luggage over Thanksgiving.

Overpricing: We’re taking my 3-year-old niece to Disney World in October. Now, I’ve been to Disney World, and I know how they operate and how much things cost. I was prepared to pay serious bucks for hotel, park admission, and mediocre food. But.

We wanted to book a Princess Tea for my niece at the Grand Floridian. Do you know what it costs for one little girl and one adult to attend the Princess Tea? $263! Each additional adult? $89!

I’ve had afternoon tea at the Empress Hotel in Victoria, British Columbia. I’ve had it at Liberty of London. I’ve had it at the Park Hyatt in Sydney. I love me some afternoon tea, and I’m willing to pay to enjoy the best afternoon teas in world. But even Harrod’s does not charge $263 for two people (or $89 for one). I’ll be damned if I’ll pay Disney triple what it costs at the Peninsula in Hong Kong.
