60%+ finals

there are plenty of classes at Cal where finals a worth a hefty portion of your grade or where the finals come equipped with special clauses

ex:
* if you do better on the final than the midterm(s), replace your midterm grade with the final grade
* replace HWs+ quizzes + participation + every other random thing but the midterm w/ your final grade
* "if you do especially well on the final, i will take that into consideration if you're borderline"
etc.

Q1: what's the highest (effective) weight a final has held in your college career so far?
Q2: how do you all feel about classes with these special circumstances? it's harder to "guess" what your grade will be overall since so much can change b/c of that one test.

Finals are almost over! Yay

1) 90% as of this semester…(but only 60% if i did worse on the final than the midterm)

2) im mixed too about this…its ice if you didnt do so hot on a midterm, but on the other hand its scary that 3 hours of the entire semester can count for 4 units of your semester GPA

i have 5 finals this week…done with only 2 :frowning: got three left and havent even started studying for my 7 pm cumulative final tomorrow…ugh.

I find that finals don’t usually change my grade. I always get the same grade I had going into the final. Which I guess is a good thing.

I’ve never taken a final that was too huge a percentage of the final grade. I’ve had a few classes with the opposite sort of “special circumstances” (i.e. classes where if you fail the final you fail the class).
