Hi, I'm planning on applying to transfer to a UC this fall and had a question about the number of units required to transfer.

By spring 09' I'll have about 56 units and will be why of the 4 units that are required to transfer.

But, I plan on taking courses during the summer that will allow me to reach the 60 units requirement.

I was wondering if UC's take summer classes into consideration and examine me as a applicant who will have completed 60 units, or will I be considered a applicants with less than 60 units since I'm taking my courses during summer?

You'll be considered an applicant with less than 60 units which usually leads to automatic rejection. You must have all 60 units done by the end of your final spring semester.

ugh i'm on the same boat as you, thats why ill be cramming more units in the spring since UC's require transfer students to complete 60 units at the end of spring semester

Don't worry too much. You are allowed to finish up your 60 units the summer prior. However, you have to be aware that you cannot complete any pre-reqs the summer prior; those have to be done by the end of spring.

So plan your courses wisely. Make sure you're done with pre-reqs by spring. Just use summer to finish up those last four units. And make sure you do indeed finish the 60 units and maintain a high GPA or they will rescind you in no time.

I have to say though, if I were you I would remove all doubt and do what it takes to have the 60 units done by end of spring. If you just need the units, check out ratemyprofessor.com and find something that isn't going to harm your other grades. That long five month wait will go a lot easier for you if you have less to worry about. Good luck

It's been awhile and I have a lot on my mind but I might have been off a little on my last post.

I can't exactly remember if it is IGETC or pre-reqs that they don't allow you to take the summer prior. But whatever it is, you can still take a random four unit class (which is considered to be an "elective") in summer just to get you those units to put you at 60.

But yeah, I'd cram if I were you. I now see why I was told that taking a large amount of coursework in a semester at CC will better help prepare you for Cal. It's true!
