600 pts on Maths1 or Math2 – what's better?

Hey folks,

hope you can help me out - Ill have to take a Maths subject test on jan 26 and actually feel well prepared. Only thing Im not sure about: What will be "better" / make a better impression on ad-coms decisions for each of those options:

a) Maths 1=500 pts
Maths 2=400

b) Maths 1= 500
Maths 2=500

c) maths 1= 600
maths 2=600

etc.

basically: Is taking the harder maths 2 test always rewarded by the adcoms? Do they favor a student with 600 pts math2 over a 100% similar student with 600 pts math1? Or do they look at the percentiles (i think 650 pts math1 will put you in let's say best quarter but on maths 2 it'll be just mediocre)? If they do, what difference I need to be rewarded for taking the harder one? Will a maths 2=650 be equal to math1=700 or 550 altough precentiles are completely different for each?

I guess this post is just as confused as I am right now.
Hope you can gimme a hint which one to take.
Greets,
Tobi

Jesus Christ, just get 800 on both.

If you have covered all of the material needed for the math II, take that. It has an easier grading curve and it looks more impressive to admissions depts

what dya mean with "an easier grading curve"? and what's about the percentiles? Do they count or not?

And what's more important: SAT Subject tests or SAT reasoning? If my Reasoning ist 590=math and I get 600 or 650 on Maths Subject 2, does that make up for the 590?

"what dya mean with "an easier grading curve"? and what's about the percentiles? Do they count or not?"

You can get more questions incorrect/omit more questions and still have a respectable score. Admissions officers do not see percentiles. They're to help you, to give you an idea of how well you did compared to everyone else who's taken the exam.

"And what's more important: SAT Subject tests or SAT reasoning?"

Depends. The Reasoning is an essential part of your application, after all.

"If my Reasoning ist 590=math and I get 600 or 650 on Maths Subject 2, does that make up for the 590?"

Math II tests more advanced math, so the two can't really be compared.

ok, one more time: took both official practice tests today - result on each is 680pts!
so, finally, what will be better to have in my application file: a maths 2 with 680 or a maths 1 with 680?

I know it's kind of redundant, but i can't think properly right now.... just gimme opinions/advices again ;) thx in advance,
tobstm

ps: I'll leave home (and access to internet) early tomorrow, so please respond asap - thx.

Frankly, both are bad, but the 680 in Math II is better.
Why can't you just take both?

yeah i know they arent that fine. that's mostly b/c the way we learned maths in Germany is competely different. an average class test takes 3 hours for 3 huge complicated assignments. we're somewhere deep into calculus and linear algebra/analytic geometry... great difference to a 1 hour quick and dirty 50 multiple choice question test ;) but that doesnt matter right now I guess.

Oh, and I cannot take both b/c Ill have to take Literature (as a non-native speaker o.0) and US History (without having had a single class of US history - just read some books sigh)

Good look to all,
bye ;)

Isn't it a little late to decide which one to take on Saturday?

no...you can take anyone you want on the day of the test, free...except for language w/ listening. On the other hand, if you're talking preparation-wise, then yeah...it is a bit too late...notice the bit part...lol

Sweet! I'm switching to Math I then. :)
