I was just wondering how long is too long for the supplement essay. Mine is right around 600 without the quote at the beginning and about 620-630 with the quote.

Another question I guess I'll throw in since I already made a thread: The Common App essay only says 250 word minimum. If mine is slightly less than 1000 words, but (assuming) it keeps the adcom interested, is it too long?

yaay finally someone who doesn´t abandon essays around 900 words ^^ thanks i´ll submit mine too (640 and 952 words), so you can be sure, you´re not the only one ^^

Hey sorry, I just have a quick question. For the 4th prompt AKA the “choose your own quote”, when it says put it at the beginning. Does that mean I can just put it down separately at the beginning, and then begin my essay, and would the quote contribute to the word count? Or does put it at the beginning mean I have to integrate the quote in my intro at the beginning of the essay. Thanks for clearing that up.

And as far as word count, right now mine is around 600 also, but I guess it will probably change depending on the responses to this thread.

Alluric, I just placed the quote at the beginning, separate from the rest, as you did. I did referred back to it throughout the essay, though, so that it seemed somewhat connected and not just put there for no reason.

In addition to the essay you have written for the Common Application, please select one of the following themes and write an essay of about 500 words in response. Please do not repeat, in full or in part, the essay you wrote for the Common Application.

When they say about, that’s more or less a cap. I was scared of going like more than 5 words over, my essay is 462. For the Common App it should be no more than one page at 12 size font, Times New Roman, regular margins and all that stuff. If your response is like 900 words that’s WAY too much. And 700 for the princeton app is also WAY too much. Keep them to what they recommend. My common app essay is 500 words on the nose.

If you don’t trust any of us, just call Princeton yourself. I don’t know why that isn’t the first response of people on these boards with crucial questions anyway. Essay is a big deal, don’t assume a thing.
