I expect every restaurant would want a reservation for a large group. My friend had a private room for the group and selected the food to be served in advance.
Even though I’m not the OP, I did talk about my upcoming 60th birthday. Thought I’d give an update.
My kids got together, which in itself is rare, and we all met at my son and daughter in law’s home. Spent time together, grilled steaks and got lots of new grand baby snuggles 
The new parents are struggling with life so we also cut grass, cleaned and helped with laundry. All was appreciated and we were happy to help.
The next weekend, my mil and fil and brother in law went to my very favorite restaurant which overlooks the water and had great food and wine. It was all I asked the in laws to give me so I didn’t even feel guilty about the somewhat expensive dinner. That the in laws can well afford but rarely do.
And my husband and I are doing a river cruise in November for our anniversary/my milestone birthday. I’m so excited!
In the end my birthday was perfect for me!
