So unfortunately, I'm having a pretty hard time with this Math II subject test. The way my schedule worked out, Math and US History are the only SAT II's I'm semi prepared for. I'm confident of a 750+on USH, but can't break 700 on Math II.

So my question is, how badly would a 680-ish hurt my chances at Ivies-everything else is fine-2300+ SAT, national/international awards, speak multiple languages. Should I even still apply?

First of all, you can use score choice for colleges that accept it, and second of all, most colleges will only use the top two of your SAT Subject test scores even if you submit them all. A 680 in math is not that bad, and if you already have two other, better SATII scores, this is nothing to worry about.

In my humble opinion, the only way you will have no chance at an Ivy is if you don’t apply
Also, if you are not going to be a math/science major, I think you still have a chance
Good luck

Anyways, SAT II are def. factored into your academic profile so they shouldn’t be disregarded. 680 is not really up to the mark considering 10 percent of Math II takers get an 800 and it is generally considered an easier test. I used to be in the same boat but got it up w/ practice.

And, as a ccer, you can automatically be deemed as not having a life. (jk)

Everything is easy for me except oh no I scored a 680 on nearly worthless SATII. I am just such a pretentious genius. I hope one day you guys/girls learn to grow the **** up…life’s about more than your grades and what college you go to.

PS I was accepted to ivy league, but turned it down for a better shot at med school.

Your 2300 SAT including high M section score speaks for itself, and presumably you have a strong math GPA. You need to educate yourself on what the colleges require in the way of subject tests and develop a strategy–you may not need to submit Math 2.

I don’t think any college will require Math 2 if you are presenting as a liberal arts major.

If you are applying for math/science, engineering or similar, some schools require Math 2. But many (including most or all the Ivies as I recall) will accept Math 1 or will not require math at all. Note, the challenge you face in performing well on the Math 2 may be a reality check re: an intended course of study in a STEM field. If you aren’t comfortable with higher math, you may need to reassess your academic/career goals.

While you are checking test requirements on the websites of the colleges on your list, make a note of which colleges require you to submit all test scores. I think you will find you won’t be able to suppress a poor Math 2 score from many schools because of the “submit all tests” requirement, i.e., many schools have not elected to offer “Score Choice.”

Thanks so much. Math has just never been my thing, even though science is my best subject. If anything, I’ll just self-study for the Bio SAT II, which shouldn’t be too bad.

A friend of mine who is Asian got low 600s on her sat 2s, 30 on her act and she still got into harvard, brown, and Cornell. So it is definitely possible to have low test scores because they really dont matter as much as you think.

I had less than you on my Math II SAT and I got into UPenn As an international student needing financial aid (that’s like an anti-hook) going into engineering. I had only 1 national award/achievement.
