(A)One result of the fire department's new contract
is that they can no longer offer overtime pay on weekends.
(B)As one result of its new contract, the fire department
can no longer offer overtime pay on weekends.
(C)One result of the fire department's new contract is that
overtime pay on weekends is no longer possible.
(D)The fire department's new contract results in their no
longer being able to offer them overtime pay on weekends.
(E) One result of the fire department's new contract are that
offering overtime pay on weekends is no longer possible.

Correct Answer is C. I understand that E and D are obviously
not correct but what about A,B,C? I couldn't
see how C was the best answer, can someone explain?

The subject is “one result”, not “fire department” or “contract”. “they” makes no sense since “it” would be the correct pronoun, since it is referring to a singular department, so A is wrong.

I believe the problem with B is “direct object” after the comma should be the what the result was, so it should be something like “overtime pay can no longer be offered on weekends in the fire department”

C is the simplest and most concise version of the sentence.

I think you are mistaken intsocietygirl when you said the answer was C, according to the Blue Book’s answer the correct answer is B.

Oh good. That makes a lot more sense to me. I spend like 10 minutes wondering why B was the wrong answer.

oh! Sorry about that An0maly! I wasted 10 min of your
time, haha sorry!
