690/700?

does getting a 690, 700 on an SAT I or SAT II subject test hurt you a lot?

Yes. Anything but an 800 hurts you a lot.

Most kids don't have 800's though.

no. If you go straight 700's and get 2100 on the SAT, that's a solid score.

i'd say 700 is the cutoff score if you want to call it a "good score".

Wait a minute. Strait 700's is a solid score for what? Not the "HYP" imo. IDK though. What do you guys think?

2100 is outstanding for a Mexican applying to HYP....don't ya think so?

whats with the race card?

asian with 2100 is being laughed at while a hispanic with 2100 is outstanding?

Damn right. It's sickening, but a hispanic with a 2100, maybe around a 3.8w and average ECs could easily get into an Ivy (maybe even hyp).

sup is 100% correct. Affirmative Action has actually made people more racist where I live (and I'm not talking about the inherent racist nature of AA itself, I'm talking about classic minority-hating racism). White people get mad at minorities for having it so "easy" in the college application process. This last week at Oklahoma Boys State I met a black guy who was very smart. We began talking about colleges and when he mentioned his possible bid to apply to an Ivy, I felt we had something in common. The conversation eventually got to the subject of Affirmative Action and this man mentioned that he felt others would always brand him as getting in only by the color of his skin, but never by his meritorious achievements.

I just got back from Oklahoma Boys State. What city were you in?

I was from Hardin City. What city were you from? My name is George; we might have met.

I was from Pedigo City. Did you guys like impeaching the governor? Hmmm... your name is George? Did you argue the Senate and House's case in front of the Court? My name is Race

Haha. Yeah I was on the defense team in front of the Criminal Court of Appeals, House, and Senate (wearing the yellow shirt). Congratulations on your Boys Nation acceptance, as that's a very big honor.

I had to leave while whats-his-name from Finch was arguing :( I would have liked to have seen all of the arguments, but oh well...

When you mentioned the intelligent black guy were you talking about Camal Pennington, the other Boys Nation delegate? If so, I agree, he comes across as being very intelligent. Of course, I disagree with him on a lot of political issues as I believe you do, as well :)

No. I'm talking about the mayor of another city. The name of this intelligent person I admittedly forget, the point remains the same: affirmative action debases the merits of truly qualified black Americans.

As far as Camal goes, he was an extremely nice person and a good politician, but his views were 100% liberal. This blatant liberalism (blatant only by personal conversation), by the way, he effectively masked during his question and answer period to the general delegates (something that gets on my nerves).

what most people don't understand is that as long as racism exists, AA must exist. if there weren't racism, it would cease.

By its very nature, Affirmative Action IS racism. It exists on the premise that minorities cannot be looked at as truly equal to every one else, but rather must be looked at as inferior individuals who can only suceed based on the whims of the "rich white men" in power. Affirmative Action only increases racial tension. I say this based on the experiences I've had with my peers. I've even seen it on this board! I can't say it enough. A system that biases any set of races over another is intrinsically RACIST, but more importantly, a system based on the notion that minorities can only get anywhere with the help of those in power is especially ELITIST. Elitism gives to an elite few the fate of the destinies of the many, and in this case, it gives an elite few the power to eternally brand the achievements of all minorities as undeserved and given (as opposed to earned).

Yeh but w/o Affirmative Action minorities would say that they are being discriminated against because they would not get into any top colleges. So either way, its racism...but it matters from whose point of view. Plus AA action gives asians (like me) a distinct disadvantage :(:(:(

Harry, I hear what you're saying, but what we all know as FACT is that people like me and you are already being discriminated against by colleges.

In fact, AA gives Asians like you an even bigger disadvantage over whites. Also, don't forget the ethnically Jewish, which, as far as I know are screwed the most by the horrid institution of AA.

damn you AA....
