690 chemistry=goodbye top schools

I just got a 690 on the November chemistry test! Ugh...i know worst chemistry score ever on CC. The most vile thing is that I don't have another chance to take it! this is the last test I'm taking and it's my senior year. Hurray failure! My other subject tests aren't going to help much especially with the nasty november math II test that practically everyone aced! My national percentile was so average, Joe should be happy. What a slap in the face. Well this looks like goodbye to Emory, Vanderbilt, Cornell, Duke, Rice. Well, I've always heard of these things happening to kids on TV but this is reality baby. my ED is a farce. My RDs are lame ducks and it looks like i'm the first Chinese kid that had the opportunity to got to a top school but totally blew it.

no. youre score is good enough for any of those schools

Welcome to life…

Imagine having your entire family expecting you to go to a great college but knowing that you’ve been too lazy or too dumb to even give yourself a chance to get in.

what were ur scores on the other subject tests and sat i?

aryakk: pressure from parents, that’s never a good thing. frankly my parents don’t give a rice bowl if i don’t get into top colleges. i just aim for the gold.

2200orbust: SAT: 2240 SATII math: 750 (it’s over…) chinese: 750 (another nasty curve)

Wait, isn’t the January SAT available?

DMOC: really? I didn’t know I could still take the Jan. test! YES. there’s still hope! Thank you DMOC.

the January SAT is still available, but make sure you don’t blow that one.
BTW, i don’t think the SATIIs weigh as much

a lot of top schools really do take SAT IIs into account because it shows your understanding of the curriculum. many schools value them even moreso than the SAT because students can prepare for them. however, test scores are never the end all be all. if you still have a good GPA and ECs you should be fine for any of those schools. and as for these specific scores anything over 700 is acceptable- so don’t discount any of your scores, seeing as the chem score is only a little off from that mark.

Just letting you know, that 690 on chemistry is a lot better than I (or a lot of other people) could have done. Don’t beat yourself up over it. If your other stats and ECs, essays, and recommendations are good, that score can be overlooked.

I’m not sure they even really look at the third SAT II if they don’t require it?

This has been repeated a lot of times - don’t look at the percentiles for SAT II. People only take their strongest subjects, so the percentiles are not an accurate representation of your ability in that subject compared to the entire nation. A 690 is not “good” for those schools you’re applying to, but it shouldn’t have any negative effect on your application. There’s no need to retake it - your score might not even improve, and your time would be better spent on the rest of the application.
