Harvard allows you to get out of taking a language if you score a 700. Is there anyway they'll take pity on me and let me do that with a 690?

No.
You might want to retake it to try for the 700.

You don’t need to have filled the language requirement until…after your third term here? Something. So you can take an on-campus placement test and try to do just a little better. I’m not sure if there’s a French placement test at the end of fall term, if you’re not referring to your placement test score but to an SAT II, but there is certainly one at the beginning of spring semester.

Maybe I’m wrong, or the policy has changed, but a few years ago H allows those who got a 650 or more on SAT-II French to waive the language requirement…

Harvard recently changed the requirement to a 700 SAT II to fulfill the language requirement.

Surely you can fulfill the language requirement by doing well enough on the placement test?

I have a question is a score of 670 in the french subject test with only one year of study-had french in my sophomore year- impressive???

^^ very well done! That’s quite an accomplishment. Unfortunately, it’s not as impressive as the guy who went to language camp, busted his rear for 3 years learning the language and then scored a 680. It’s the score, not the ease of obtaining the score that matters.

Thank you!!! I understand that effort must be rewarded…however, could I explain my score to adcoms??
