I want to take 7 AP courses senior year:
AP Calculus BC
AP English
AP Chem
AP Statistics
AP Comp Science
AP Spanish (online course)
AP Economics
Do you think this is manageable?

Right now I am taking 3 AP courses:
AP Physics (B)
AP English (A+)
AP U.S. (A-)
Intro to Comp Science (A+) not AP but I want to take AP Comp Sci next year
Usually my grades improve as the yr goes on.

Last year I took AP Bio (A+) & AP World History (A+)

I've never gotten lower than an A as a final grade for any class I've taken in high school.

Talk with your HS counselor. Remember you will also be applying to colleges, which will take a lot of time and energy and may be making college visits as well. My S took all APs and marching band his SR year, but the counselor didn’t recommend that many other students take that heavy of a load.

In all honesty, I don’t think this is a good idea. Assume you get 45 mins of homework a day for each class, that more than 5 hours a day. Do you have an ECs?, Job? How to plan to pay for these exams?

I think you would be more sucessful (both mentally and college wise) is you drop a couple and pick up an EC. (I’m assuming you don’t already have any)

AP Chem is no joke. neither are the FLs or English.

I don’t have a job, but I have two volunteer positions at a nursing home and an animal shelter. Also I have a few ECs: DECA, English Honor Society, National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Interact (community service club), and Spanish Honor Society. What’s FL?

And that’s true about the cost. I didn’t think about that

I’m doing 5 right now and I really, really hate it. There’s so much homework and it’s exhausting to do it, write college essays, and play a sport. My grades are fine and I’m not performing badly in anything, but I’m miserable all the time.

It’s a complete tossup, though; I took 4 last year and the homework was virtually nonexistent. I barely worked last year. You have to figure out what the teachers at your school do for each of those classes and how much homework you’d have.

My daughter took 5 AP classes last year and self-studied one AP test (micro econ) with her econ teacher on weekends and holidays from Christmas vacation through late April). She participated in several ECs and also had a PT job (10-15 hours a week). She had no time for her sport senior year so she didn’t participate and missed it. She was stressed out the entire year and didn’t do well on her AP tests and she didn’t get enough sleep–she slept about 5 hours a night.

As others said you are going to have college and scholarship apps. In addition, I assume you’re going to want to enjoy your senior year–hanging out with your friends, going to dances, participating in your ECs, etc. Don’t make your senior year miserable. Just take a few AP classes and have a life!

BTW, I assume even taking 3-4 AP classes will prepare you well for college. My daughter thinks college is easier than her senior year was.

I’m taking seven this year as a junior. (Physics C, Calc BC, APUSH, LANG, Stats, Comp Sci, and French). Honestly it’s not that bad except for when I procrastinate and have a Lang essay due the next day. I still have time to tutor people, hang out with friends, EC’s and stuff. You should be fine, just know it’s going to be a lot of hard work.

It’s a bad idea. I’m taking five and regretting it. AP Chemistry is a LOT of work; I have a friend who took it and 4 other AP courses last year and she was DYING. She got a 5 on her exam though so it was probably worth all the work.

I’m regretting it primarily because 3 of the are online with due dates every 2 weeks, and if you don’t make the deadlines it’s 10% off per day it’s late (except saturday-monday counts as one day late). Oh, and AP Spanish is online for me which makes it HELL when technology decides it won’t cooperate. The site gets picky with file size submissions and recordings can get annoying. Since you’re wanting to do it online, and I myself am having a bad experience with it, I advise you STRONGLY not to do it; this is one of the biggest mistakes in my life to be honest. Lowest grade at present moment… I’ve never had a B in my life and I don’t need to start my senior year when they scrutinize your senior year performance. I’ll get it to an A but it’s not gonna be a breeze…

Oh, my AP courses:
AP Calculus AB
AP Literature
AP Spanish Language (online)
AP Statistics (online)
AP Art History (online)

I’m also taking Astronomy and Chemistry. A’s in everything but AP Spanish. Don’t follow in my footsteps.

Oh yeah, I have little time to enjoy my senior year AND study for ACT/SAT/Subj tests AND complete applications. There are many essays due to the colleges to which I am applying.

The courses are pretty much offered every period or a lot of periods, so I think I’ll be able to fit them all in. Maybe not AP statistics b/c it is less popular but all the others are pretty popular.

Yeah, I have a varsity sport in the fall, and I definitely don’t want to drop that.

Also, I wanted to take AP Spanish for the AP International Scholar Award. My school doesn’t offer AP Spanish, so my only option is to self-study or take it online, and I was thinking taking it online would be easier.

Maybe dropping two or three AP courses? I want double major in C.S. & English, so which classes would be the least important for that path?

In SR year, S took:
Marching band
Ap comp sci
Ap Calc ab
Ap physics c
Ap English
Ap us history
Ap Econ

He self studied for ap us gov and ap env sci
He had taken college stats one summer and another ap comp sci course JR year as well as ap physics b.

Have heard that ap chem is tough. Taking too heavy a load in SR year is a recipe for burnout, especially with apps for college and scholarships, interviews and visits. Our S took more APs than any other male in our state. He did have permission from his GC to take what he did, but she thought it was a bit much.

As someone taking 4 APs and 3 of the ones you wanna take next year. (Calc, Chem, English) I just wanna say

No no no no no no no no no no

I’m a straight A, 7th in the class overachiever and I’m barely managing 4 APs and college apps. Granted, I’m still getting good grades but that’s with 4 hours of sleep a night and some app procrastination. I’ll be pulling an all-nighter to get lots of work finished tonight. Maybe you’ll be more diligent, but the work’s a killer. At least drop a couple.

To be honest… That work load is crazy. I personally plan on taking AP Physics B, AP calc BC, AP stats AP English and FL. AP physics C is off limit.
