Hello!
I’m a junior planning on taking 7 AP’s in a short time of only two weeks!
Tests:
AP Psychology
AP US Government
AP Biology
AP Environmental Science
AP Chemistry
AP English Language
AP US History
I’m currently in AP courses at my school for APUSH, AP Chemistry, and AP Lang/Comp.
The rest I have been self-studying for.
Does anyone have any advice on doing well on some of these specific tests? I’ve been self-studying quite diligently for the past four months.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks
take ONLY the AP tests that you have taken classes for.
Taking any more is NOT going to impress ANY college admissions committee.
Read what Stanford has said about AP classes.
"We want to be clear that this is not a case of “whoever has the most APs wins.” Instead, we look for thoughtful, eager and highly engaged students who will make a difference at Stanford and in the world beyond. We expect that these students have taken high school course loads of reasonable and appropriate challenge in the context of their schools.
As a result, we do not require students to submit AP scores as part of our admission process. AP scores that are reported are acknowledged but RARELY play a significant role in the evaluation of an application. GRADES earned over the course of a term, or a year, and EVALUATIONS from instructors who can comment on classroom engagement provide us with the MOST detailed insight into a student’s readiness for the academic rigors of Stanford."
[I added the all caps, so that those words would stand out. ]
In other words- self studying for AP classes impresses NO ONE.
now climb back from the ledge.
And do you best in the classes you are actually taking.
@menloparkmom Thank you for advice! However, the reason I’m taking this tests is not to “look impressive”; in fact, I hardly have any concern with these AP tests “looking good” on a college application especially since I will not be applying to any “prestigious universities.” I’m more focused on getting college credit with the exams.
That is a nice goal, but it is MORE important that you study for and do well on the AP tests for the classes you are actually taking NOW.
The tests are long and hard and you will need 4’s or 5’s to get credit at many colleges
