7 Course Pattern

Hey all!

I have a question about the requirements to transfer into a UC, specifically about the General Ed requirements. I’ve completed the English Requirement, as well as the Math Requirement. However, I’m somewhat confused as to whether or not I’ve completed the Arts, Sciences, and Social section.

On my UC Tap app, it states that I’ve completed three of the 4 required courses. I know that I need 4, however, I did take some AP Exams in High School, specifically AP World History and AP Government. Would these count towards those 4 courses if I were to TAG, or should I take another Gen Ed course in that section?

Sometimes they’re allowed, sometimes not. AP always fulfills IGETC but if you just do general breadth you need to look at each school/college for its rules. For instance, Berkeley’s College of Letters and Science will not accept any AP to fulfill its breadth.

Yeah, I’m looking to transfer to UCSC for Computer Science. I have all of the major requirements completed, I’m just worried about my General Ed Requirements.

And, looking at the website of the Baskin School of Engineering, it doesn’t seem to give any information regarding the completion of GE, besides the fact that they encourage students applying to not complete the IGETC.

Yeah, it’s probably okay but you might want to email Baskin and ask.

UPDATE:
**IGETC: NOT RECOMMENDED for students wishing to complete this major. Instead, we recommend you take as many technical courses as possible, leaving general education courses to take at UCSC. This allows a schedule of 2/3 technical courses and 1/3 general education courses which students find to be a more reasonable load than taking
only technical courses. **
