7 years program or 8 years program

Do you think saving one year in this long journey is important... ? any thoughts?

hey...i'm gwu's 7 yr program, i'm a freshman and was just thinking about 7 yrs vs. 8 yrs...in my opinion it makes no difference in the long run, yeah you'll be one year ahead but so what? haha, if i had a choice i would take 4 years of undergrad. it's the only time you'll just be enjoying yourself, and it's no fun having to rush everything. but that's just my opinion

what do you think of gw's program so far soccergrl?

Yeah, I agree with soccergrl - the only benefit to the 7 year program is the tuition savings. Other than that, 8 year is a lot better - more time to take electives, study abroad, do research, learn about something totally random that you might never have the chance to take a class about again, and just generally live the life of a college student.

soccergrl31,

Im pretty excited that I just got accepted into the GW 7 year program today. How rigorous is the program? Are you going to be strained to finish all the requirements or are you feeling at ease? Will it be a problem to study abroad? Thanks, oh yeah and how are the people / social life at GW?

one more thing- how is the competetiveness amongst the students?

congrats on the program...i actually really like the program, i didn't expect to like it as much as i do. the program is rigorous to the right extent. i chose a program over a normal school or ivy or whatever because i didn't want to have to worry about resume builders and doing things just cause. the 3.3 gpa is good because it's not impossible, but it also keeps you in check. keeping your gpa up in college is harder than it is in high school. there really isn't much competition. i mean, it's what you make of it. some of the people in the program are competitive with each other, but i mean all around it's good, not too lax but not ultra-competitive.

As of now, i think all of us in the program are pretty much at ease with the requirements. It's really not hard to get done in 3 yrs and you have the choice to major in whatever you want, and GW is great with accepting literally, ALL ap credits and transfer credits from other colleges without much of a problem. I'm planning on studying abroad next spring. It's not a problem, plenty of people do it, but it does leave you with like 5 semesters of college. I might actually just do it over the summer to make my load easier during the year.

the social life is great. it's fun, DCs a cool city, there are so many things to do off campus and so many things to do on campus. the people are going to be cool anywhere you, you mesh with the same people wherever, it's really what you make of it. i personally like dc because it's not too big, not too small, i'm from jersey so its a good distance from home, and there are always cool things going on. oh, and i know you were talking about the money. Yah, gw's expensive, unnecessarily expensive, but you also have to remember that it's a fixed tuition for all 7 years. for me it's like 27000 for tuition, which will pay off in medical school when everyone else is paying like 50000 for tuition.

but yah, there's a lot to consider i guess. i'm sure being in sunny beautiful miami makes the decision harder with lil ole gw, but goodluck on the decision. hope i helped
