i currently score consistently around 700 in math section on practice tests. also on the psat, i scored a 75. i was wondering what it takes to get from 700's to a 800 consistently in the math section of the reasoning test.

Peeinthesink is right. There are two types of people who are hovering around the 700 mark: those who are good at math, but just are about at the level of SAT math, so that sometimes they are tricked by the harder questions, and those who are far above the level of SAT math and can do any question correctly, but are careless. So it depends on which one you are.

I got 780 on the October '07 test.

My average on the 8-10 practice tests I took was around 720 (-4). Best was 740 (-3). I somehow managed to cut my mistakes down to -1.

The best advice I can give is just to be extremely focused on test day-reading the directions thoroughly and ensuring my math was flawless really helped. Speed is key too, make sure you don't agonize over a problem.

If you are the second type that amb3r listed, as I am, it's very easy to jump. My first time I scored 670 in math. The second time I scored 800, and the only prep I did was do a section from a free practice test the night before on my break at work.

I think it'll be just 4~5 problem more. I got 750 on my math and only got 2 wrong.

i got a 780 on my math the third time a took it. (i got one wrong)
but the two times before that, i got 700.

honestly, the only difference is that i REALLY focused on the math section and checked it over and over (esp. the grid-ins, those were my downfall).

grid ins are my weakness too.
