How many questions usually can one miss to get 700s (provided that the essay score is 9 or 10)? And, why is the curve so insane?

-7 10E i got 720

I missed 6 and got 11 on the essay and I got a 730

79/80, 9 Essay = 770

74/80, 8 Essay = 710

So you can miss quite a few. Even with just an 8 essay, I missed 6 and got over 700.

bigmrpig, how can missing six translate into a 74? Shouldn't it be closer to a 67 or 68 (from my experience with the writing curves)?

I missed 5 on the Jan SAT and Scored perfect on the essay to get a 730.

woah..now THATS harsh...

indeed, not good at all.

Woops, you're right, I was just posting the MC score, I never actually checked how many I missed. I suppose I must have logically assumed than 79/80 was one miss and so 74/80 would be six misses. Lemme check.

I got 5 wrong on that one. So only 1 difference. 62 right, 5 wrong, raw score: 61/67.

Well, my raw score was -6, and I got a 74/80. Not too far off from what I originally said, but you're right, I only missed 5, not 6.

So 5 wrong, just an 8 on the essay, still a 710.

MC: 80, -0
Essay 11
800
So a 800 is possible even w/o a perfect essay

Both times I've taken it I got exactly the same score...

3 wrong, 1 omit, 11 essay = 730. It's getting aggervating lol.

2 wrong 10 essay 790. How can that be right?

^ that sounds right to me

I missed 3 for a raw score of 72 both times. 9 essay gave me a 710, and an 11 essay gave me a 750.

Wow the curves are way too harsh, I'm getting ****ed off

since the essay is worth 240 pts out of the 800
is it like

1 = 20
2 = 40
3 = 60
4 = 80
5 = 100
6 = 120
7 = 140
8 = 160
9 = 180
10 = 200
11 = 220
12 = 240

? that would make sense if it was so.

Why do some people do really well and get lower scores and some people who missed more got higher scores?

Maybe it's the essays?

CLARIFICATION

there are different forms for a given test date. The essay subscore varies from each form. There are typically three scales for the writing section accounting for each form

:)

MED786

The MC is worth a lot more....the essay isn't really worth as much
