Hi so I’m a current HS senior who’s applying to colleges this year and am ED-ing to Rice.
My GPA is 3.8/4.6 (unweighted/weighted) with a 1560 SAT score (760 r/w, 800 math) and a 800 for Math II. Butttt for my Chem Subject SAT I’ve only been able to get a 710. I’m going to apply for Rice’s school of Engineering (for bioengineering) or Natural Sciences which all recommend a math and chem but I don’t think that my chem score is high enough that it will complement the rest of my application. Is a 710 worth submitting?
Thanks in advance.
Do you really have a choice? Doesn’t Rice require or at least strongly recommend math and a science for your college?
That said, 710 is fine in my opinion given your other testing, which is excellent. Given your strong academics, I don’t think a 750+ on chem, for instance, would add much to your profile, if anything.
Best of luck with Rice, it’s a wonderful school!
Of course, they can see that score and wish it were higher. After all, it’s stem and you want a stem major. We can’t assure you it doesn’t matter. It’s highly competitive to get into Rice.
But you can head back to the drawing board, ensure you do meet course recommendations, rigor, match in the other experiences and traits they’ll look for. Not just SAT 1 or gpa.
AP scores? ECs?
