I have a 710 on the math on the regular SAT but a 750 on the math subject test (level 2). Will this 'soften the blow' of the former, so to speak? Because I scored higher on the second test (and it's arguably harder). Thank you!

Note that a 710 Math is 94th percentile while 750 Math II is 79th percentile. Obviously the test-taker pool is different for the tests, but I wouldn’t discount the quality of the 710.

It’s actually widely suggested that the SAT I Math section is tougher to score well on than the Math II Subject Test. Obviously the questions on the SAT II are tougher, but the curve is overly generous and allows you to get as many as 7 questions wrong and still score an 800. Very often with the regular SAT I, a single incorrect question can disqualify you from a perfect score. For that reason it’s not uncommon to score higher on the subject test than the actual test, so your situation isn’t peculiar and wouldn’t set off any red flags to admissions offices.
