I'm a freshman, and I (kind of stupidly) took the SAT Subject Physics test and got a 730. We didn't even cover all the material in class, but lots of other (smarter at physics) students were taking it in my class so I did too and ended up with a 730 (while lots of the other people got scores from 750-790). This seems like a rather mediocre score for top schools. I'm almost definitely not going into engineering or the sciences or math or anything like that, so is a 730 in physics bad for my case? I was planning on doing one SAT science just for the sake of it, and now I'm not sure if it's worth it to take another. Over this summer, I'm currently taking chem and it's kinda boring/annoying/I don't like it, summer school is a blur and I probably won't remember anything, and I don't feel like it's worth it to study extra hard outside of class to prepare for the SAT test, so I don't think I'll do it. But would it be worth it to, after taking Bio (or maybe AP Bio, assuming I like it...) to take the SAT subject test to see if I can get like 750+ for my SAT science score, for top colleges? I'm hoping my other SAT subject scores will be higher, so that's why I'm debating about my physics score and what I should do. If it makes any difference, I'm currently planning to take the SAT Math II, U.S. History, and Chinese with Listening tests at some point. Any suggestions would be awesomely appreciated!

Anything with a 700+ is fine, seriously. Especially since its not going to be your major. The SAT II, while a factor, I am sure is only a small factor in your admission chances, and getting a 730 in physics (one of the hardest sciences along with chemistry) is very impressive. Believe me, you will realize all this after your admission cycle is over in 3-4 years, just don’t think too much of the numbers unless its absolutely out of order (like 500 something or so).

Thank you. Anyone else have opinions on this?

i got a 730 on chem at first then a 740 which is annoying because i changed two correct answers to incorrect answers at the last second…

i was basically in the same situation and i talked to my guidance counselor and he said i had nothing to worry about at all

OMG
You people irk me
Some of us here would dream and pray we get a 730 on an SAT2 and you’re complaining about it

Ok. TheWin, yes, some people would dream of getting that, but some people get 800 EASILY! So I guess I fall somewhere in between I think I might take bio if I like it. If not, I’ll just stick with my other SAT 2’s.

Physics is a hard subject, but one of the easier ones to get an 800 on in the subject test (you can miss around 10+ questions!) Are you aiming for top schools? All it could matter is if you’re trying to look balanced, then a 750+ is ideal, but eh don’t sweat it.

Allocate your stress wisely lol a 730 physics as a freshman is definitely nothing to fret over… even for ivies.
