aidee…how many years of spanish had you taken before the test? Just curious as I recently signed my son up. I think it sounds like an excellent score, but I really don’t know anything about SATII’s; do people generally score higher on them since it is a more select group taking them?

I’ve studied spanish for 5 years and been on two exchanges to south america and spain so yes I do have some experience with the language.

however, I’m confident your son will do well if he is a good student and if he reviews the basic grammar, verb conjugations and especially some vocabulary before the test. I did the IB programme (similar to AP I presume) and these exams were much tougher than the SAT IIs.

and yes i think there is a more select group taking the scores (perhaps students with spanish/latin american heritage), as on my score report I was in the lower IQR range - hence my question if my score is a good one…

No single score is “good enough” aidee. It’s a great score and you should be confident in that. But you’ll be rejected/accepted based on your whole file, you know.

Overall it’s a great and accepted score, but if you feel like you could do better than it is not a great score because its not representative of you.

No need to retake! A 730 is a great score. The SAT 2 language test is often used to place one out of a language requirement or for placement at the college you decide to attend. For instance any score over 700 will place you out of the language requirement at Harvard (they just changed the score from 600) and I’d guess that other highly competitive schools scores are in the same range so don’t bother retaking, there is no need for it.
