I am applying to Yale early action, and I received the scores from my first attempt at the SAT II this morning.

On Literature, I had a 740. On US History, I had a 720. However, I strongly feel that I can perform better on both sections if I were to give it another go.

The last opportunity I have to submit scores for consideration at Yale is the November test date. Should I take it again, or are these scores enough to allow me to be a competitive college applicant?

I have searched for the average SAT II scores of some of the colleges I am applying to, but nothing has turned up. Thus, I really have no idea whether these scores are on the low, middle, or high side of Yale's applicant pool.

Did you feel like you did well on the history test? I'm only asking because a ton of us here felt like we got much better scores than we actually received. I mention this because I'm not sure even if I retook the November U.S. History SAT II that I'd get a higher score.

Retaking 740/720 scores is a little pointless, IMO. Sure, 800's would look better. But there's not much difference between, say, a 740 and a 780. I've heard from various school reps that retaking anything over about 700 is pointless... colleges would rather you spent the time in some other way.

They are probably on the low side for Yale but don't take them again. Instead, maybe you can take another subject or two and do better in those? That would be a smarter use of your time. Besides isn't the registration deadline already over?

I'm taking the ACT tomorrow and should do well, but I'm also signed up to retake subject tests next weekend.

Should I bother retaking them? I can more than likely do much better. I got a 5 on both the AP Chem and USH tests, and I'm worried my SAT scores don't reflect that...
