740 math satI, 800 math II (bad...?) ekk

don't get annoyed please lol

but basically, will only a 740 on the math section of the sat reasoning test look really bad for admissions to MIT?? =/ total sat score btw was 2290
does my 800 on mathII make up for it??

i don't wanna take the sat again!!

thanks guys

They want 700+. You’re fine.

A 740 in math is within MIT’s middle 50% range for admitted students last year (the range was 730-800).

Last year, students with SAT math scores between 700 and 740 were admitted at a rate of 14%, which is about the same as the overall admit rate.

Statistics are here.

You’ll be fine! Chill =)

your scores are fine, don’t stress out about it

Ya I think thats fine. The 740 was probalby 2 careless mistakes, seeing that you got a 800 on the Math II test. All admissions officers know that these small mistakes are part of life. Your 800 on Math II will stand out way more.

Tis nothing to worry about; I ended up with 750 on SAT Math and 800 on SAT2 and was accepted EA this year. The SAT2 is more respectable than the SAT Math.

^whoa congrats ! you’re awesome dude
& dang don’t take MIT for granted!!! lol

I have a sort of unrelated question. Will retaking the sat II math look all that bad?

I took the subject test last weekend, but I forgot my calculator and had to use my friends ti 89. I couldn’t figure out how to approximate trigonometric functions as decimals, and that forced me to skip 9 questions.

I’m expecting low 700’s because of that, which sucks. Would it hurt to retake it???
Whaddya think?

Haha, that’s the way I feel whenever I have to use anything less than a ti 89. You would hold down the green button. And definitely not. If you are still feeling antsy you can always do score choice.

MIT will only look at the highest of your math and science SAT IIs. It doesn’t hurt you to retake.

lol my math teacher:
“what??? you only missed two on SAT math and your score is that!”

physics teacher:
“well, when i took the SAT, i got 800 on math. twice.”

thanks.

The curve is pretty generous for math II anyway. If I get anything around a 750, I probably won’t waste any more of my time on retaking it. low-levelish standardized tests (ie everything sat) are quite an exercise in mental stamina for me, and reruns of my favorite crappy VH1 shows are aired on saturday mornings.
