75% of biology majors are pre-meds

According to this article, "approximately 75 percent of students studying life sciences nationwide plan to go to medical school".

However, since at least half of pre-meds do not get into any medical school, that leaves a surplus of biology major graduates competing for a small number of jobs at the bachelor's level, or graduate or other professional school slots as alternatives to medical school.

Why don’t they just go to Dental, Physical Therapy or some other graduate program instead? They knew they were doing post-grad schooling to begin with.
