76 in a elective??

I got a C in a stupid elective class this term…i am unbelievably ****ed and now worried about the impact on admissions…
i generally get a’s…so far 2b’s and 1 c this term…

what will happen?

What is the elective?

creative writing...most pointless class ever

uhm, i wouldn't be too concerned about it, especially if the rest of your profile looks good. A lower grade in an elective class shouldn't be your primary worry.

ok thanks

What do colleges think of elective classes? It seems to me that they think electives are crap. But to my understanding, an elective is just another regular class. I dont know why they look down at it.

Most colleges recalculate your GPA and electives aren't included

thats definitely good to hear

I would venture to say that some electives are looked upon more highly than others. My son's "electives" were journalism (freshman year), psychology (sophomore year) and currently ap psychology (junior). His gc was happy he had chosen "scholastic" electives rather than more artisticly based ones (being that he wants to go into biology or premed and not the arts). He felt it would look better on his transcript. That said, I do not think that adcoms would poopoo a class like creative writing as it is can be a measure of how well you are able to write which is something they care about, rather than a measure of how well versed you are in photography, which is not as important to them unless you were going for the arts.

I got a "W" in an elective once no big deal. Never take African Art, it is a very hard class.

haha ill remember that joev
thanks lela

nyu... just do better next marking period... one C is not the end of the world!!

Thats funny because to graduate in BC Canada all I need is Math 11, Eng 11 & 12 so all of my other courses besides those 3 are electives.

Depending on the school, they will definitely look at the score. For an Ivy, top university, or top LAC, it will light up a red flag. If possible, try to ofset it with

1.) A high SAT II writing score (and possible SAT I Verbal and SAT II Literature)

2.) A positive letter from an English teacher through whom you could explain the situation

3.) A high grade in that or a similar class for whatever grading period comes now and around the end of January (or whenever your school must send in the mid-year report).
