780 or 800!?

Would you guys take the SAT II Math IIC test again if you guys got an 780 besides an 800? Would ivys really take this into account?

760=770=780=790=800

Exactly; they put the scores into tiers. If you fall into the range they're looking for, they consider it the same as if you got the top score.

But 760,770,780,790,800 all have different percentiles. Do colleges like Columbia care about percentile?

Percentiles aren't as relevent for subject tests, because the only people who take them are those who are strong in that subject area, whereas the SAT I is taken by most college-bound students. If you scored an 800 on the SAT II Chinese test, you'd be around the 50th percentile, but colleges wouldn't look down on that! ;)

should i take IIC again if i got a 740?

Is that your lowest SAT II?

yes, i got 760 chem, 760 physics, 760 american history

i had a 780 and i took it again to get an 800 and i would definitely do it if i were you, if you can get an 800, theres no reason not too, because of the insane curve a 780 isnt nearly as good as an 800

ckmets13;
I would retake a 740 if I were you; because you can get 800 from iic if you had 760 from chemistry and physics.

would it look bad if I have already taken it twice (sophomore year 630, junior year 740)?

and also i am applying ED so I would have to rush my november scores

They would if the test taker in question is Chinese.

They wouldn't "look down on it" per say but it wouldn't be as amazing as if the Chinese test-taker learned, lets say, French, and got an 800.

I don't think you have to rush scores to get them in on time. Schools like Yale University state that most November scores are made available in time for the adcoms in EA/ED, even without rushing.

Besides, it's not like you wouldn't fulfill the requirements. You still have the 740 on your record, so even if they defer you and you send them the higher score later on, it wouldn't be that bad.

Plus, you already have three SAT II's. Unless you're sure you can get higher than 760, which may raise your chances (a little bit).

I think I've heard of MIT using the tier 750-800 as highest, so if you could raise your score 10 points it may give you a considerable advantage.

well i would retake it if i were applying to Caltech since the average at times is a 800. But for the other schools i think it's ok.

yes, retake 2c. it is quite easy to score a 750+ if you are prepared.

duke said that in order for them to receive november scores in time for ED they need to be rushed, and since we are already past the regular deadline thats another $60 total to the college board when I already have 3 higher satIIs, i doubt i will retake.
