790 in math II

What do I do? I'm aiming for the top schools like Harvard/Princeton, how badly does this reflect on me?

It looks fine. You were one question or so away from an 800, don’t go crazy over it.

…I sure hope you’re a ■■■■■.

Get >=780 and take it.

@OnTheFridge: Nah. This kind of thread is common on CC from what I’ve witnessed.

Are you kidding?! What is it with kids these days? What kind of pressure are you putting yourself under?

A 790 is a great score. Be proud of yourself … that’s what you do.

Clarification: by “take,” I meant that you should accept your score.

For those who may not know, the reason that this question comes up all the time about this particular test (Math 2) is because of the percentiles. Unlike other tests, an 800 on this test is not a 99th percentile. This causes some people to think that anything less than an 800 is a failure. I don’t think this is true at all, but this test is different from others.

More info: In 2009, an 800 was an 89th percentile, while a 790 was an 86th percentile. Not enough difference for a retake, in my opinion. Compare that to Math Level 1, though, where 790 is still in the 99th percentile. This is more typical of the SAT IIs, except for some of the languages. For Chinese with listening, an 800 is 56th percentile!

Ugh I got a 780 :frowning: I was worried about the same thing, because so many other people got 800s and I won’t have a good percentile.

A 780 is so good! Don’t worry :)

My friend got a 790 (or was it 770?), retook, got an 800 and got into Harvard. I’m not saying they’re correlated or anything. Just laying out the facts. If you want to, you can do it, and it shouldn’t kill you.

what about a 760 (applying to MIT) worth the retake (and would I be able to retake in time for EA)?

760 is pretty low for MIT, considering the M is for Math.

Uhh, I got into Princeton with a 780 on Math II. Not the end of the world, people.

760 on Math 2 is 78th percentile. I think that probably means a retake for somebody who’d like to go to MIT.

A lot of people got 800s on this FORUM because almost everyone here is a genius. Do you really believe everyone got a 780 or higher? YEAH RIGHT.

@christiansoldier - the M is for math in MIT? You might want to double-check that…

Dude, Math Ingineering Technology.

Lmao, Ingineering.

Facepalm @ christiansolder and OP
790 is amazing, t’en fais pas! You’re obviously smart and capable :)
