Hey guys,

I just got my scores back from subject testing and they are as follows:

Math 2: 790
World History: 770

Now, my question is is it worth it to retake either of them? My goal one day is to go to a top-25 school.

Thanks

PS For any of you wondering, yes, I have used the search function. All I got are really old threads and new threads with lots of conflicting ideas. So some new insight would be appreciated

Sorry to tell you this, but you are likely to get a lot of crap about your post. While they may not show up in a Search, asking if one should retake 750+ SAT scores is a constant and bad habit of the overachievers here on CC.

You are obviously under the false assumption that you can’t get into a selective school without straight 800s. The truth is: you don’t need 800s AND 800s will not guarantee your admission to these schools.

Anything over 750 is excellent and should not be retaken. IMO retaking that level score is a negative not a positive, as it indicates an unhealthy concern with numbers over being an interesting and thoughtful applicant.

^ second the above post

Do NOT take it again. There’s a chance you could get the same score, or maybe even something lower. Also, the top colleges often require you to report all scores… retaking a 790 for an 800 will make you look like a “score whore” to colleges. Not exactly a good thing.

Remember, SAT II’s are considered, but not nearly as important as GPA, extracurriculars, and SAT/ACT.

Lol no.

I will definitely major in biology, and I got a 720 on BioM. While it’s not great, the score is only a really small piece in all of my application, so I’m not going to worry about it. The same can be said for my 2210 SAT, 750 Math 1&2, and 3 on AP Euro exam.

Personally I would test my stats against the Academic Index calculator. Change your 790 to 800 and see how little a difference it makes. I told my S the same thing. No need to retest a 790 Math II. It is a great score.

I got Math level 2 790 and USH 760 and I am not going to take those subjects again.

You can check the results threads of even the most prestigious schools- so many people w/o straight 800s, even low 700s or high 600s, got in anyway.

I, personally, think SAT Subject results don’t affect your chance by much. If you get 750+, I think there is little difference.

Absolutely not. Don’t retake anything over a 750. It’s a waste of your time and money. And your score probably won’t get much better. Especially because the few points between 790 and 800 and between 770 and 800 (to use your particular situation) will make no significant difference in the admissions process. Such minute variations in scores are negligible, especially since your score tends to go up or down a few points based on the particular test you happen to get on your test date.

thanks for all the help and input guys!
