7th grade SAT score, opinions

I just got my SAT test results make today! I reviewed a 1450 out of the 2400 possible(you guys probably know that part though)! I personally think it good for somebody my age?! What are your opinions on a score like this for somebody my age? Will I do good when I take the real SAT( that counts) in 5 years?

Woah that sure is young to take them! It is probably hard to gauge how well you will do four or five years from now just using that one score. So many factors go into your test performance.

Did you take them for CTY’s, or as another gifted program’s, entrance requirement? If not, why on earth would you take them?

I have no idea what those numbers mean for a 12 year old…

Taking the SAT early is used by many of the talent search programs (CTY, CTD, EPGY). They should have available a chart to allow you to compare your scores to other 7th graders. I know that getting over 700 in either math or CR makes you eligible for a grand award at Johns Hopkins (and SET).

Mid 500’s is very good for a seventh grader. Because scores prior to grade 9 are not kept by SAT, this is a good way to practice under actual test conditions, and has become more common. Suggest you check over the wrong answers to see where you could improve, and order the SAT official review book at some point, when you are ready to begin studying for the real test.

Here are the awards cut-offs for this years JHU-CTY Talent Search. You can compare your scores to kids who took the SAT for the talent search.

Awards Ceremony Eligibility Chart
Test Grade 7 or 8 Required scores
SAT 7 Math >=550 or Critical Reading >=550
8 Math >=600 or Critical Reading >=600
Grand Ceremony Eligibility Chart
Test Grade 7 or 8 Required scores
SAT 7 Math >=700 or Critical Reading >=700
8 Math >=750 or Critical Reading >=750

That’s really good! You did better around half of the seniors (maybe around 48%, but still very high, if you think about how old the other test-takers are). A score of 1450 is only 50 points away from the average SAT score. Congrats!

If you want to compare, three kids (including me) in my grade did take the SATs in seventh grade. We got the scores of 1500, 1600, and 1800. :slight_smile: Hope this helped!

You will have to look at the individual section scores. If any one of them, math or critical reading etc is over 700 by age 13, it’s very good and qualifies for JHU SET.
If one area is over 550, it’s still pretty good and qualifies for JHU CTY programs.

I think you would most likely learn the majority of the math skills needed for the SAT in 8th-10th grade. I’m not completely sure, though.

One more reason to do away with the SAT.

I got 1910 in 7th Grade
