It means I'm defered right? Is that better than getting denied? I never thought my grades would be bad for msu, I always thought my ACT score would be. So what are the chances of someone who got defered cause of grades that they get in?

Wait what? If they’re asking to see your 7th semester grades then you’re deffered. I always thought they asked for 8th semester grades.

Getting deferred is better than getting denied. MSU accepts a good number of students who they ask to see seventh semester grades from. They could have liked what they saw in your application but want to confirm that you continue to trend strong.

I would continue doing the best you can senior year and remain hopeful. Sometimes acceptances from MSU come late. Good luck.

Msufan - how did you find out about the 7th semester grade request? Did you get a letter or was your application online status updated from “processing your application” ?

romani: no it said 7th semester so i’m assumed that mean deferred
res ipsa: thanks but it’s going to be hard when my whole calc class is barely passing. and yeah i heard deferred acceptances come late. how late are we talking? if it’s around march i’m not waiting. but hopefully it’s before jan 2011 because my school has trimesters and this trimester ends nov.
dewie62: i found out cause it said it as my application status online. at first it said they were processing it for like a whole month then all of sudden today it said 7th semester grades: awaiting

Thanks - we’re still waiting, but expect to be deferred too.

i checked my status today and it says 7th semester grades in the table and next to it it says “awaiting.”

i haven’t received a letter in the mail or anything confirming i’m deferred, however…

i have trimesters, too. when the representative came from to my school, she said that people that get deferred have to wait until their SECOND trimester in order for it to be equivalent to a second semester, which i find really sad.

i was selected to be part of the early notification program, and ironically it seems i’ll hopefully be getting my acceptance later in probably april. this really stinks.

is there anyone on here that was deferred in earlier years? and can you share your experience?

dewie92: that sucks

allysonb92: are you serious?!?! 2nd trimester? this is ridiclous, looks like I won’t be going to MSU. I can’t wait 'til april to make my college decision. Do you have a back up plan?

yeah, it really sucks. but i don’t really have a backup plan. there isn’t anywhere in MI that i really want to go besides MSU.

anyway, i called the admissions office. i am “deferred.” but my counselor sent them my transcript that was full of errors. i can’t trust my counselor that’s for sure. but without the errors, my gpa is only a 3.3. since i have all A’s right now this year with 3 APs the lady told me to send in my 1st trimester grades and a letter of recommendation from a teacher. she said it might help.

Ally: if you don’t end up getting in, go to a community college for a year and then transfer in.

I got that too.

i’d rather go elsewhere, but i’m pretty sure i’ll get in.

allysonb92: Yeah there’s not many colleges in MI that interest me but MSU and GVSU.I have 2 APs this trimester and my gpa was a 3.4 when MSU looked at it, but after first trimester it should be a 3.52. If I send it in with a letter or rec. should that help for me?

I got deferred with a 3.3 and 30. It really sucks :/

Hallaron93: sorry that sucks…BIG time!
