8,000 Freshman!

This is unbelievable. For me, it's a turn off:

<a href="http://www.centredaily.com/mld/centredaily/14549838.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.centredaily.com/mld/centredaily/14549838.htm</a></p>

That's a lot of freshmen.

Damn, that's twice the size of my high school

Holy ****!!! What's the average class size gonna be then? 800????

This sucks.

Wow. Something just feels wrong about that number. You just know that many kids will have their first year experience compromised by lousy housing arrangements.

Well, this will be a real test for the admisntration. So far, I have been impressed at how organized PSU is with so many students. But I can't imagine how they're going to handle a class that is sooo much bigger than in the past. Also, I think this might mean a tougher time for those who apply next year - as I would guess that they will try to even things out in the next admissions cycle. Does anyone know if they were surprised with the percentage of students who accepted or if they planned this huge class? Might have something to do with the success of the football team last year - that always seems to create increased interest in a school.

Remember the 1200 returning students who did not get housing contracts for next year? Sounds like they limited the number of contracts available bc they were planning on a bigger freshman class.
I wonder what they are offering the kids who got contracts to move off campus and give their room to a freshman...

try nothing.

That is crazy...why would you give up your contract?

Are they hoping a lot of kids want out of the housing contract once they find out they didn't get the rooms they want (ask for West, get placed in Pollock)?
Maybe that is it, you get to break the "unbreakable" housing contract.

some people seem to be giving up contracts if they only received supplemental space (converted study lounges with 4+ roommates) or if their friends (often that they had planned on rooming with) didn't get contracts.

i haven't heard of any special incentives for giving up a contract yet.

and you don't find out what area you'll be living in (pollock, west, etc) until august... good luck finding off-campus housing that late! it's hard enough finding somewhere half decent to live when they tell you in march that you didn't get a contract.
