8 am class as a commuter?

Hi! I’m starting a Spanish minor and need Spanish II this fall. I have two possible schedules-- TR Spanish at 8 then another class at 9:30, then done for the whole day, (I have online classes too) or MWF at 3 (other classes undetermined). The TR class fits my schedule better–but I am a night owl. I’m the most creative at night, and regularly stay up until 1 or 2 am. Plus, my college is 40 minutes away. Should I bite the bullet and take the class, or try to find a schedule that works with the MWF class? Do you have any tips on how to survive it as a night owl?

Don’t do it. Don’t. Do. It. Unless you’ve really got yourself disciplined.

I lived on campus my freshman year, and I still had difficulty getting to my 8 AM.

As a current commuter student and fellow night owl (try 3 or 4 AM), I wouldn’t dream of taking another 8 AM.

Thanks for the answer! I know I will hate myself if I take that class, but if I don’t then it’ll be a struggle fitting other classes into my schedule. Plus I like the concept of classes on TR only and then being home and ready to take a nap by 11:30 am haha. I also work odd jobs on film sets, which means committing 12+ hours of the day, so having three days off each week would be nice. But then again, last semester I had a 9:30 am class and it really sucked.

Think about how badly you want the other things that you mention. People do a lot of unpleasant things to achieve goals. It’s temporary. If you don’t want it bad enough you will have trouble making it work.

I would have had no trouble with it; I’ve always been a morning person.

But most college kids aren’t.

My son currently has a 7 am class twice a week, about 15 minutes from here. It’s been a rough semester weather wise-- any number of times he’s had to go clear snow from his car before leaving.

The most important thing is that you do well in class. Languages are intensive so it is important you attend. Seems like you should not take a 8:00 class
