ok so i just took a practice test from the barrons book and scored a 730, what do you think my chances are of scoring 800 on the actual test

how do you know if a substance is hypertonic or hypotonic?

a substance is hypertonic if the concentration of the solute is greater than that inside the cell then the outside and a hypotonic solution has a concentration of solute that is less than the external enviroment

Just to clear up any confusions I may have caused, when I say solute I am referring to the cell. The term solute is just clearer since it can refer to things other than a cell, whereas a cell is just…a cell. Or it could be that I am taking chemistry right now, so maybe solute just seems to be more of an appropriate term?

A hypertonic solution has a higher concentration for the cell/solute than the outside environment, whereas the hypotonic solution has a lower concentration for the cell/solute than the outside environment. If we are talking about the external environment, you almost never refer to it as such (In fact, I am pretty sure that to do so is incorrect).

And yes, a 730 should get you an 800-the only reason I didn’t was because I horribly mismanaged my time and ended up rushing the test. If you take your time on the test and do not panic, you should be set. My highest score was a 730 on sparknotes by the way.

what would be a good way to study stuff from the barrons book that I still have to do in biology class, but havent startet yet e.g. genetics

^^ I am going through the same dilema as you. What i’ve done is FOR NOW skipped genetics and gone onto other things such as taxonomy and photosynthesis and will go back to genetics in the barrons book once my class ventures upon (I hope we do before june 6)

ya, at last we’ve fnished a week of testing on reproduction now we’re starting genetics although it was worth it 100 on every single test

congrats, i just found out from my teacher that i’ll probably have to self study all the physiology and photosynthesis…any tips on how?

yeah, i need to study all of the animal physiology/plant stuff by myself… but somehow I ended up with a 720 on the Molecular Bio SAT practice test, which genuinely surprised me - hopefully my real score this saturday’ll surprise me also!

did you do anything in particular to learn the physiology/plant stuff because the only thing i can’t think of is to outline my text book then go through my barrons book

Give yourself a week to learn the remaining subjects and you’ll do fine.
When I took the Bio E test, the only biology related class I took as a freshman introductory course :]

And alot of things from Barrons are superfluous.

well , im taking the test in june so ive already reviewed all of the life processes and am currently working on reveiweing biochemistry and I feel bad for u guys cause in my honors bio class ny teacher goes through grasshoppers, hydra nad the earhtworm throught each of the human physiology so during our excretion unit we learned that earthwors esxrete urea through their nephridia

hartown - I just read the Barron’s book, I didn’t even read the textbook.

ya the barrons has a chapter all about animal physiology
