Any other study tips, you guys with 700+,please?

Word Smart is a must?

I took a testmasters course, but I did not do my homework or pay much attention to anything except math. We did have to take practice tests though which helped me see patterns in the type of questions and answers.

Ok heres the deal about Kaplan/Princeton Review VS. Collegeboard. The prep company questions arent neccessarily easier... in fact they are often harder.

^ those American prep schools are easy
Try going to an Asian one and they beat you down

i got a 580 on verbal the first time i took it, 740 the second time, and now (as im studying for it again), i keep getting 800's. I think what helps is reading SAT passages and answering the questions over and over. once you do about 100 passages, you have the hang of it and start to see a pattern. its been working for me.

I got a 60 something on the PSAT CR. Then for the SAT I read Sparknotes and Collegeboard's Blue Book. I also did two practice tests from the book. I got lucky on the test and ended up with an 800 in CR. I think practice tests help the most because they help you get used to the kinds of questions they ask on the test. I think the few practice tests I did helped me a lot. Do some questions and see what you goit wrong and why. I also learned that the right answer must ALWAYS be supported by the passage. I know it sounds really obvious but I was getting a bunch of questions wrong because I forgot to think about that.

Well, I guess my post won't be helpful to u but maybe it can b inspirational. I never did good on CR. I did pretty bad on the PSAT and even worse on the practice tests. But in the end it all turned out okay XD.

for those of you who used grammatix, did you pay for it?

is there a free version?

Grammatix is not free.

that's lame... well the day i found out about it (a few days ago) i signed up for the email thing, and it doesn't seem very good. i probably won't buy it.

right now i'm using Barron's SAT book. is there anything else out there that's good or better?

Do debate or forensics. Knowing how to dissect arguments helps immensely.

Read a lot, and more, and more. Classics, arcane works where you have to practicing knowing tone, inferring stuff, guessing. Don't slack in your lit/english classes.

Vocab I guess... I didn't have to, but it helped with some friends.

Most of you are math/science people; I'm the opposite, can never stop myself from missing 1-2 on the math.
Anyways, I just got into Stanford, and I think my 800 CR/800 LIt was probably my strongest testing component. So good luck.

"Most of you are math/science people; I'm the opposite, can never stop myself from missing 1-2 on the math."

are you saying you are opposite from math/sci people because you miss 1-2 on math? if you are, you are totally screwed up.

I took AP literature and it really helped my critical reading score. In our ap lit class, we read passages aloud as a class and annotate the reading. Then we gather into groups an discuss why one answer is better than another.

The main thing about CR is to be able to read CRITICALLY/CAREFULLY/CLOSELY in a short amt of time. that, my friend, is an art which takes a lot a lot of practice.

Best wishes,

SOOOOOOO True...I got 800W, 800 V (680 math heh) but
1. the W section is all grammar practice. Easy to prep.
2. the CR section is all reading skills. AP English helps a lot, and I think the 1 way to ace this is to READ READ READ. These skills are built up every time you read. I got 700+V when I was 12 (that CTY-SET thing) all because I read avidly. Math on the other hand is/was a toughie...560 at 12, now 670-700 at 16...oh well...

Hmmm...what about the essay though? I'm pretty good with grammar, but the essay is so objective. Do you guys come up with examples beforehand to fit the prompt or come up with them on the spot?

This thread can be helpful. Gonna bring it up.

I have a 590 CR. How can I improve that to a 720 in 1 year and 4 months? I have practiced a plethora and now I am just reading classical books and new yorker, NYTIMES, etc. Can somebody please tell me if that will work or not?

I've gotten 580/590 on all my practices tests up to February through Princeton Review. Today I took my last practice test and got a 640 in C.R. Does anyone know if this is accurate? I'm taking it April 1 and wanna know if it's possible to pull it up to like 670-700 by Saturday? Any tips?

bump...........

perfect on Jan reading,

One book: RocketReview and please no Grammatix

the latter, in my opinion, only significantly helps those scoring below 650.
