86 Units

Hey Guys,

I saw someone on here who said they only have 58 units (semester system). Well I just found out I'm going to only have 86 transferable (107 total, btw i'm on quarter). Should I tell the UC system that I'll take summer courses? I know that they want you to have 90 units completed before the fall that you transfer in. So I'm assuming summer school at my CC will do fine.

Or am I completely wrong?

Summer school does not satisfy IGETC or unit requirements.

And, could you clarify your unit situation; when will you have 107 total quarter units?

he has 107 quarter units now, but only 86 of them are transferable.

i suggest you prepare for their phone calls and pick summer classes asap. i wish we knew more about approaching such a situation. someone here got an offer from UCD to complete their units over summer. But as for UCB or UCLA... well, I'm just not sure how they would reply.

How did you come up with 21 (~20%) units of non-transferrable coursework?

i thought 60 transferable units were equal to 90 quarter?

60 semester units equal 90 quarter units. Whether they are transferable is a whole other issue dragondawg.

that's why i said transferable units, unless you talking about something else.

60 transferable units equal 60 transferable units. changing from semester to quarter is different than transferable...

I'm in student gov, and to be in it you need to take a leadership class and leadership lab. I've accumulated a total of 9 lab units plus 4 class units. On top of that, I've taken 2 honors seminars (for TAP) and they're only 1 credit and I hear they don't transfer.

Weird thing is, I reported this when I applied to schools and I was still accepted into UCSB and SD

Actually I have 102 total, I miscalculated. Whoops

Damnit this really sucks...I can't believe I'm short one class. I'm done with all my IGETC and Transfer work so hopefully a transferable summer course will do fine...

Wha? Are you sure? It didn't say anywhere that summer school is excluded from IGETC.

wow so basically you're telling me i'm F***ed?! I accidentally took the wrong course this semester and it didn't count for my physical science so i signed up for geology in the summer...and that doesnt even count?

so basically my IGETC doesnt count for ANY school? aka UCLA and UCI already threw my app in the trash? ---------____________-----------

I just got this off a site...

"Summer school is part of the prior year. The U.C. system strongly recommends completion of I.G.E.T.C. certification by Spring semester if transferring Fall semester."

...so does that mean i'm okay?

whoa whoa whoa holdupp

i believe summer classes, and even online classes, count towards IGETC and major requirements. But maybe it depends on the CCC you are attending. I know at Santa Monica College, they don't make a distinction bc even though it's in the summer, it's like an accelerated course and you do a hell of a lot of work bc it's a shorter session. Anyways, that would suck royally since I'm planning on utilizing those summers and winters to get 60 transferable credits.

lol not that they dont COUNT because they're summer or online, but that they dont count because its the summer before we transfer

yeah the colleges want you to finish everything by the end of spring semester

As far as I understand, summer school is fine, courses taken during summer count.

But they want us to finish IGETC/unit requirements by the end of the spring before we transfer. So, summer courses immediately before fall transfer don't count.

So bottom line, courses taken this summer for Fall 08 applicants won't count. Courses taken this summer for Fall 09 and later will.

Probably, you will get rejection from UCB.
u r already over 80 units....-_-,,,,
my friend got rejection from UCB last year by taking more than 80units.

baik -- quarter units, quarter.
