So on my high school transcript, I have the Geometry class that I took in 8th grade on it. I got straight A's all year. However, once I've calculated my GPA, having the Geometry class on it has lowered my GPA. I want to be valedictorian as a senior, and I'm planning to take all AP classes junior and senior year. I also have the option to take it off of my transcript. So should I keep it on my transcript although it lowers my GPA? Do colleges care about 8th grade classes? Thank you in advance!

In most high schools, geometry is taken in 9th grade. I would put Geometry in HS transcript. Do not worry about it causing .001 difference so you dont get the valedectorian spot. I am seeing too many students doing this and frankly colleges do NOT care. I have students that do not want to take another summer course…since that may affect their valedectorian spot (I guess it depends on the total courses or whatever the math is).
Please get over this. Geometry is important to show on transcript since in most cases, it is a high school level course.

I would have a 4.143 if I didn’t have it on my transcript!

Okay! So do colleges like to see the class on there over the GPA?

Did you take math classes in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12? If so, it will be understood that you took geometry prior to those advanced classes.

If you only took 2 or 3 math classes in grades 9-12, you may want to list the 8th grade geometry class, despite the valedictorian risk. Check with the colleges you want to attend- do they have special programs or scholarships for Vals?

If you are gunning for a top school, Ivy level, it won’t make a difference if you are # 1, 2, or 3. (As long as you are top 2 or 3%.)

Do you even have the choice of taking it off? Both DD’s took Geometry in 8th grade, and the HS automatically put it on their transcripts - there was no option to leave it off.

Same in our school district. All high school level courses are shown on the transcript, regardless when they were taken. DC took Algebra I in elementary school, and it’s on her transcript forever. The only diff is that the student has the choice to retake the course if he or she doesn’t like the grade. The retak3 grade will replace the old one, compared to others who will have both grades shown.

Don’t worry about this.
