Well, since I took 3 High School Courses in 8th grade, It's on my High school Transcript. I had a 84 gpa (yea i know sucks =( ).... In 9th Grade I had a 92, 10th grade 94, 11th grade 95, and first quarter of Senior year 99. BTW I'm a Full IB Candidate. So Do colleges really take into consideration 8th grade, cause I mean who really thinks about college in 8th grade. Do they have their own way of recalculating my gpa, cause I would really hate for my 8th grade gpa to be what keeps me from top colleges.

Dude, many and MOST colleges exempt those grades and DO NOT ask for them- regardless that they ARE high school courses. I took 2 maths and a foreign language but I did not include them on my grading report. Top colleges/ really any college- will not take them into account. Look at the colleges you are interested in, and during the application process it will tell you about this. Most of them say they could care less what you did in middle school.

No, colleges do not consider eighth grade grades–even those in high school classes. Some don’t even consider freshman year.

Not only do they not look at them, they don’t ask for them.

So when they get my transcript with my 8th grade gpa on it, will they recalculate my gpa somehow using just 9th-11th?

Are you sure your 8th grade GPA is on your HIGH School Transcript?

well first you have a solid upward trend which is good…Are you really positive that MIDDLE SCHOOL is counted towards your GPA as a high school student

I actually really want to know the answer to this as well, because on my OFFICIAL HIGH SCHOOL Transcript are 2 high school courses I took in eighth grade, and my schools registrar insists that they are factored into the overall GPA. I’d like to know if colleges care or not about those classes.

Generally, if you were given hs credit for those classes, they are and should be on the transcript. However, where I teach, the classes are on the transcript, but since they were not taken in our building, the GPA doesn’t count, just credit is given. You might see if you can have the grades eliminated, but not the credit.

It is like this at my school as well. It is not uncommon to have these grades on your HS transcript, though whether they are calculated into GPA will vary by school district.

Yes, and they will consider midyear grades as well for Regular Decision.

Yea, on my transcript it has the name of my middle school, the grades for the 3 classes I took, and the gpa for it. And my guidance counselor said that even though they were taken in middle school she can’t take them off my transcript which I think is really stupid because I never thought about college in middle school =(

But, when they calculate your GPA do they use it? I would not worry about these classes, really! You are doing great now. Adcoms are not searching through your application looking for that one little blemish that would allow them to toss your application. They are looking for reasons to accept you, not deny you.

Having high school courses in eighth grade counts towards completion of courses needed to be admitted to college but grades for those courses taken in eighth grade are not themselves used by any college in evaluating admission.

Almost every single college recalculates your GPA anyway. There are so many different ways of calculating GPA throughout the country that the number alone is meaningless.

Yea, but the only problem is that the 8th grade gpa got calculated in my total gpa, and brought my rank down. I’m ranked 49 out of 260 now, when my guidance counselor said I’d be ranked in the 20’s or 30’s without 8th grade. =(

Your counselor writes a letter to go with your application, and she should discuss this sort of thing. You could also mention it in your “what else” section, just try not editorialize or complain. Just the facts.

Don’t worry about that. its shown on your transcript, but the colleges themselves calculate your GPA by looking at your transcript. They will NOT include those grades
