I had a serious illness 2nd semester of 8th grade and got a B+ both in Alg 1 and Spanish 1 (because I was ill during finals). Those are the only grades that show. I am normally a straight A student and I am interested in applying to Harvard SCEA. Does the 8th grade count in my GPA for college and if so, what can I do about it?

Grade 9 grades usually don't count for much, and grade 8 grades aren't even sent in (to my knowledge). Colleges will only look at your high school marks (grades 9-12), and the greatest emphasis will be put on your grade 10/11 marks.

It depends on if you received credit towards graduation (high school graduation that is)....if so they must go on your transcript and be clacualted in your high school gpa.

For my school, the classes are listed but there are no grades listed. It's only used for credit purposes (foreign language, math)

Are these accelerated classes or does every 8th grader take them? If no grades are posted on transcript I wouldn't worry about it.

I have two eight grade grades on my transcript, but they're not figured into GPA.

And even if they were, I think colleges could care less what your grades were in 8th grade. Don't worry about something that has no weight.

Hmm goes like this

8th grade: Spanish I A/B+
Algebra I A/B+

9th grade:.....

Did not receive hs credit. May be just for placement.

It goes on your transcript.

Yes, it does count IF you get high school credit for courses. For example, some kids took geometry in the high school in 8th grade. This would count. Another example involves language. Our kids can take, for example, Spanish I and II in middle school. As long as they pass Spanish III in high school, they get credit for all three courses! This is shown on the transcript. Also,if you took Algebra in 8th grade, this grade is also shown on the transcript.
