I do not understand you’re reply. Would you mind answering the question please?

You’re in 8th grade. You have 4 years of high school to enjoy. It’s too early to worry and far too early to guess.

Sorry to late- already very worried. Never to early to start. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think about it 24/7 I enjoy my life. Just trying to set myself up so I can enjoy the rest of my life (including college and after), too.

You think you’re going to be fluent in those languages in 4 years?

No chance.

Have fun at Chuck-E-Cheese

You are in 8th grade I fail to see how this is urgent…

On another note if you spend high school doing everything for the sole purpose of getting into colleges you’re bound to be dissapointed. However if you use your time to find a passion then delve all of your time, energy and soul into it, you’ll be happy and you’ll stand a better chance.

Mhhh, what was I concerned with in 8th grade. I think it fell somewhere along the lines of airsoft guns, making the Varsity tennis team, and auditioning for the local musical production. Honestly, like TheYankinLondon said, if you go through high school for the sole purpose of creating a “great” application, you’re going to either hate your life.

Rather, spend your time now experimenting with extracurricular activities and sports. Find what you love to do, and stick to it. That’s the key to success, in admissions, and more importantly, in life.

Agree with all your comments. @ Ivyluvr, FIND YOUR PASSION!!! BE HAPPY!!! JUST EXPERIMENT AND DO WHAT YOU LIKE!!! THAT IS WHAT HARVARD LOOKS FOR!!! PEOPLE WHO PURSUE THEIR PASSIONS AND DEVOTE THEIR SOUL INTO THEM!!! Let it be Maths, languages, arts, an academic subject, etc… Find your passion, and remember, after University, life goes on. NEVER do things ONLY to get into university.

i used to laugh when my mom would tell me in junior high (8th grade) that i should aim for harvard. My reply would be: mom, i am aiming for my state school because going to a good college doesnt mean anything. I actually didnt even start thinking about college until junior year, which is also when I found the greatest passion of my life. And now, 4 years from 8th grade when I used to play video games all day and hang out with friends, I have been accepted to harvard.

Usually, the people who really aim for Harvard are the ones that get disappointed. U have to let everything fall into place itself, rather than molding urself in someone you are not. Find your strengths and your talents and make sure u love what u do.

You should probably just enjoy your life right now and not come back to CC until you’re…a junior. At least. I mean, you’re clearly on the right path toward a great school already.

I hope you’re not serious…

I would say you can come back to CC as a sophomore, because it’s got some great stuff about summer programs that you might be interested in and I encourage you to apply for if you’re aiming for Harvard.

Don’t stress. We can’t even tell Juniors or even some Seniors if they’re cut out for certain colleges, especially a crapshoot like Harvard.

Why is it your dream to go to Harvard?

asian parents thats why

You should manage your own life.

Stop. Stop. Stop.

Don’t ever change yourself to meet somebody else’s expectations. Maturation should be a natural process. Let me tell you: I spent my HS years taking difficult classes (because I enjoyed the challenge), getting good grades (because I’m self-driven), participating in activities I enjoyed, and not caring too much about college until senior year - I always thought I’d be going to a state school until this year. And I’d estimate that I have as good a shot as anybody else applying with a competitive application.

So don’t apply for Harvard unless:

 1. You’ll actually like it there.
 2. You’re mature enough to realize that high school is part of your life too, and it’s not supposed to be all spent worrying about college. If you set Harvard as a goal, you might be setting yourself up for disappointment. The 7% acceptance rate is a 93% rejection rate, after all.

my parents are chinese and they keep pushing me to do this stuff i dont think i’ll speak 4 languages- but they sure do!

Your parents wanting you to go is NOT a good reason to apply to any school. YOU are going to live there for four years, not THEM.

I can totally understand. I have chinese parents and they are very driven and hold high expectations much like yours. But you also want to find your own passion and put your effort into that. You are only in 8th grade and have an outstanding record so far with grades and test scores so your on the right track. Go and enjoy your life while you can. It’s only going to get harder.
I never even thought about Harvard until the beginning of junior year and now I got in.
