so my like entire life ive been a highhonors student...and suddenly this teacher who was out sick for the first trimester and a half comes in and what happens? A in every other class, C- in hers. i have no clue why...i study, and i think my papers are good. for example, we had to write a monomyth based on joseph cambells theory on the hero's journey. mine took me weeks and i really thought it was great. i even had my neighbor proof read it (shes a highschool english teacher) and she said it was great. so the teacher gives me a 76. i was really upset, and we had a chance to do revisions to raise our grade. so i made my revisions and felt amazing about my improvement,, and we're getting our grades back tomorrow. we had a reader response due about frederick douglas which my mom and sister proofread and which i felt good about...most kids finish theirs in like a day but i spent like two days on it, and i get a 79. i mean seriously, my self esteem as a writer is decreasing by the day and i just hate her class. she comes across soo nice but is really viscious. i dont understand

she's just a jerk whats your next assignment for her class?

wow...you guys studied the monomyth in 8th grade??? My english 2 honors class did that this year -___-

what do other students have in her class? is this freshmen honors english....we did stuff like that in my freshmen honors english..learn to write for her, ignore personal style. thats what i usually have to do, luckily this year my lit teacher likes my personal style unlike last year when I had to write his way

OOPS I see 8th grade nvm

most kids have Cs or Bs. she said this is her biggest C and B year. i had to turn in another response paper on wednesday, and ill probably get it back tomorrow or monday.

I think she'll give you an A. Don't worry about it. :)

Ask her why you're not getting high percentages? It never hurts to ask, maybe see if she can tell you some constructive criticism.

thanks...but since ive gotten not so great grades in her class, my english self esteem is basically down the drain.

What school do you go to?

well middle school grades dont count for crap anyway. i remember i got a 60 one of my middle school algebra tests, but the teacher still gave me a 102 in her class, A+, anyway you look at it though, colleges dont care about those grades

i asked her and she said i "Wasnt applying myself" even though i spend more time on my papers, homework, and studying than anyone i know in my grade. i asked if she offers extra credit and she said "she doesnt believe in it because it wouldnt be fair"

i go to a public school in CT

Ask her for improvement suggestions. Would you mind sharing the assignment, if you want pm it to me, maybe i can guess why you got a low gradE?

the funny thing is, when we had a long term sub for the first trimester when my teacher was sick....our sub went to wesleyan for undergrad and had a masters in education from harvard, and i had a A in her class. mrs snoody english lady walks in and i get a C

my papers are saved on the school computers, i cant access them from this computer.

some teachers dig length--my history teacher grades on length alone. She doesnt like too short nor too long though...so you just gotta approximate.

i dont think though that this grade will follow you much

i know, but i just need to get it up before progress reports come out, and i had no clue when that is.

I have a teacher similar to her for Adv. English Jr. year. I worked moderately hard in the class and I scored the highest in the class on most homework assignments. Yet, I have not been able to get out of the A- area. She was a very harsh grader, and would often mark me down points for mistakes that I made, that she did not mark down for others. One day I spoke to her and she told me that my papers were consistently among the best in the class, but I need to assert myself and put more effort into homework. And that one day I will not be able to slide by like I was then. In the long run, it made me learn more about myself and realize the importance of education. I think your english teacher might be trying to teach you the same lesson.

but the problem is she just tells me im a bad writer and that i need to get my grade up

yeah, my current world literature teacher is like that. i spent a LOT of time on my essay; during peer editing, my peers really liked it and thought it was great, and i had my straight-A friend in american literature honors proofread it and help me develop it..and my world lit teacher gives it a 77. -_-. BAH. i don't understand her concept.
