There are some people that claim that they study 4 APs at school and then 5 more self-studied. That, I believe, is pretty implausible.
I sense over-achievers to collapse because of arrogance..

I believe it is possible. I don't personally know any examples of someone who has tried it.

It is highly possible. I know personally of a person who took 3 AP courses in school while self-studying for 5, or 6 APs.

You should not necessarily accuse, or call such people 'over-achievers', or 'arrogant'. From how I see it, a majority of people who self-study pursue the subjects because they actually are genuinely interested in it. In addition, they do not necessarily collapse. They themselves are fully aware of the responsibility and burden of taking that many APs. Due to this, they make way in their schedule to do well on the exams itself.

It is really a matter of discipline to take that many APs and succeed.

I think that it is perfectly possible to do 9 AP's. It just requires a lot of discipline and time management.

I've heard of people doing it. It sounds crazy though. I'm taking 6 this year and even THAT is quite overwhelming so I don't know how they do it.

It's possible. I almost had 9 last year but I dropped Physics C out of disinterest (prolly would've gotten 4s if I had gone on with the exam) as well as US Gov (but not comparative. I dropped US to leave it for my senior year). Had I taken those two, I would have completed 9APs in just Junior year alone.

The reason it's possible is because semester/half-year APs now count as one. Before, things like Physics C were only 1 AP; now they're 2.

definitely not impossible. My friend took 12 APs his Junior year: 10 5s, 2 4s

I get 6 hours of homework per night from 5 AP's. Can't imagine studying for 9. O.o

rofl he's talking about me. I posted that I'll be taking 4 APs this year in class and 5 more self studied.

Sorry that I'm actually interested in subjects =[

Hmm...my school is in your state and we field similar performances.

A JR in my school is taking the following:
AP Physics C Mechanics
AP Physics C E&M
AP Chemistry
AP Environmental Science
AP Microcecnomics
AP MacroEconomics
AP JR English
Calculus 4 at the nearest University
and probably Differential Equations at the nearest University
As a Sophomore he took: AP Physics B, AP Calc BC, AP Statistics
and received 5s in all three. He can take 200 level Engineering courses at the university next year as a SR in high school.

We have a Senior taking:
AP Physics B
AP Physics C Mechanics
AP Physics C E&M
AP Calculus BC
AP Microeconomics
AP Macroeconomics
AP Computer Science A
AP Art History

We have another Senior taking:
AP Physics C Mechanics
AP Physics C E&M
AP Statistics
AP Calculus BC
AP Environmental Science
AP Art History
AP Senior English
He took AP Bio, AP JR Eng, AP Physics B, and AP Psych last year.

And another SR taking:
AP Physics C Mechanics
AP Physics C E&M
AP Physics B
AP Environmental Science
AP Calculus BC
AP Computer Science A
AP Art History
She took AP Stastistics, AP Biology, and AP Psych last year.

I don't think anybody will take 9 though. Most people are taking 4-6 APs this year. Last year, a SR that went to Harvard only received 5s in AP Bio, AP SR English, AP Spanish, AP Euro, and AP Psych. I'd figure 9 is overkill. Those taking 7 a year have stacked certain types of classes like Physics and Economics. Good luck to 9 APs though. I think it's possible.

i hope they don't forget how to enjoy themselves
i know everyone is different and really if it makes them happy go for it, but it is important to sane too

hec2008,

Oh, don't worry about that. These guys seem to be involved in everything. The girl taking 7 APs is her Class President and on the Grad Committee and never seems to do homework. We've specialized in maximizing understanding while minimizing work. A very State-of-Hawaii, laid-back attitude.

good! i am really glad to hear that. people can push themsleves too far, but then that's why God created surfing - to relax.
i tottaly understand. i am from a small beach town in california

Dude *** I wish I knew Roosevelt offered that many AP classes I would've gone there.

I wish I could have a schedule like those guys you posted =/

Dude how many APs does Roosevelt offer? When I looked on their website at the 2007-2008 program of studies the only APs I saw offered were AP English Jr/Sr, AP Macro/Micro, AP US, AP Bio, AP Chem, AP Physics B, AP Calc AB, and AP Spanish.

Are those kids self studying AP Art History, AP Euro, AP Physics C's, AP Comp, AP Stats, AP Calc BC, etc...??

Man if I knew you guys offered that many APs I would've gone to your guys school over Radford =/

O.O- where's the pleasure of life?
wtv, people at my school got into Harvard w/ AP scholar honors.

WOW... and to think my school doesn't have AP's :(

Well 9 or 12 isn't even close to what the kids who study win AP State Scholar get.

Those kids take like 20 a year..

llpitch,

It's not self study. Those classes were created after the Schedule of Classes were made (after approval by audit). Students registered for those classes in December and May. For example, the Stats class has about 34 students, all registering after November. Check our listings in November or December. You'll see a major difference.

Roosevelt can offer the following:

AP Calculus AB/BC
AP Statistics
AP Physics B
AP Physics C Mechanics
AP Physics C E&M
AP Biology
AP Environmental Science
AP Chemistry
AP Computer Science A
AP US History
AP European History
AP Psychology
AP Microeconomics
AP Macroeconomics
AP JR English
AP SR English
AP Spanish Language
AP Art History

Some classes aren't offered every year. US and Psych are staggered or Euro and Economics. I'm not sure. We don't have Radford's World History though.

I'm not sure, but I think we almost have as many APs as Punahou, but not Iolani.

Oops, forgot to mention that we run this weird Smaller Learning Community program. However, if students want out of that, they can take an AP approach. Apparently, if they take a lot of APs, they don' thave to take certain SLC classes that are heterogenous.

This is probably why we have so many Sophomores taking AP US History. We have one girl taking AP US History and AP JR English. Another dude is taking AP Physics B and AP Computer Science A. I'm surprised at some of the scores we receive. AP Physics B and AP Spanish were new last year with first year teachers. I Know Physics B was almost all 5s and AP Spanish had some 5s. Those two subjects are rather difficult.
