<p>I applied ED to Penn CAS and Huntsman.....im the most impatient person on the planet and these nine days seem like a gazillion years so I have to resort to this =/</p>

<p>Rank: 5/ 550 people
GPA: 4.7 (out of 4 due to weighting...unweighted is 3.94)
Class load: Hardest Possible at our school.
ACT: 30 (FML)</p>

<p>ECs: (these were the main ones listed on my app to some extent either on actual app or highlighted specifically in my essays)</p>

<p>Editor-in-chief of School Paper - first junior to become one in a long time, I am absolutely certain that the newspaper advisor will write me a first class recommendation. I am also the first EIC to serve for two years in a row! </p>

<p>Newspaper recieved International Award (one of the best papers in North America) from Quill and Scroll Society while I was serving as EIC</p>

<p>Also recieved renown columbia silver crown award while serving as EIC </p>

<p>Founder and manager of newspaper website </p>

<p>Awarded Outstanding web-designer by IU </p>

<p>Write for other community papers as well, including our cultural one.</p>

<p>Many essay competition awards; won 1st place in state for a newspaper article I wrote. That same article won 4th place nationally at another competition (which I will not list here for security reasons as you can easily look me up) </p>

<p>Wrote an inspirational children's book on meditation - this is available internationally on Amazon.com....it is also sold locally.</p>

<p>I have several other ECs but I feel that these are my main ones and the ones that I am most proud to be involved in! However, as you can see my goal was to essentially divide my interests in three areas: writing/publishing, Politics/History, Indian Culture. Then of course, this is all accompanied by the usual honor societies and community service.</p>

<p>Alright…update:</p>

<p>I’ve been deferred. =/</p>

<p>Any ideas as to why this might’ve happened? I know my scores are low, but it seems like scores weren’t an issue for applicants since so many students with near perfects were rejected or deferred while others with lower scores weren’t…</p>

<p>I was pretty happy with the rest of my app, any suggestions?</p>

<p>I would tell you to take the ACT again but I don’t think you really have time right? I’d just say send in your apps and hope for the best. With what you have now I’d say you’re def into GW, NYU and Emory and have a decent shot at the rest of them. Good Luck</p>

<p>Yeah, I was considering the ACT again…and I just might do that. If anything, I might take two more subject tests and January, and if I score well on them, I’ll send them in. </p>

<p>But for some reason, I really do not feel I was deferred cuz of my scores since people with lower than me have gotten in to Wharton…but they might be the exception or something.</p>

<p>Oh well, now I just need something baller to push me over the edge…though I’m not really counting on it.</p>

<p>Yessss! I read them both! I thought they were stellar. One was for sure anyways. The other one was very pleasant and sincere in my opinion, but my newspaper advisor’s was great. They all mentioned my classroom and extracirricular commitments extensively, and these were teachers who I’ve been in consistent contact with all four years of high school so I know they painted a pretty good picture of me.</p>

<p>I found out my rank changed to #7 meaning it went down 2…my gpa is 5.69 just 1/10 less than last time and now it changed that much lol</p>

<p>Is this going to reflect horribly on me for my Penn Deferral?</p>

<p>I think you’ll be fine…you’re senior year GPA is really high you’re definitely ridiculously qualified with the published book and EIC and the Miss India pageant thing really helps with not coming off as a bookworm
That’s kind of weird though I know a Miss India pageant winner but def not from Illinois lol</p>

I was gonna send you a PM but it said your quota was full?</p>

<p>but back to the chancing I wouldn’t sweat UPenn you can get into every one of the schools you listed except for Northwestern and Columbia because they’re just crapshoots for everyone, but you have a really good shot at those also :)</p>

<p>I’d say you’re in all of them except Vandy, Emory, NW and Columbia. BUT you have great chances at V, E and N (I’m not saying you’re in because of the standardized testing). If you get into one of those three, you’ll probably get into the other two as well. Columbia is the only reach here, although the pageantry and published books are very unique EC tip factors.</p>
