9 Most Common Stylistic Errors in College Essays

I've read a LOT of college essays, both IRL and on CC, and I can't think of a single essay I've read that has managed to avoid all of these errors, even my final drafts. Before you ask anyone to read your essay (unless you just want to see if a topic works), you should go by your essay line-by-line keeping these tips in mind. If you think anyone on CC is going to correct every single error you make for free, you're out of your mind. Don't be lazy! If you take the time to follow the tips set out in this article, you'll get better feedback.

To expand upon Overachiever’s comment, avoiding flowery language will also get rid of some wordiness and even some excessive digression, as it will clear up your writing and make things more concise.

Also note that these are tips that are applicable not just for college essays, but for crafting an effective piece of writing in general.
