is having a 90~93 the same as having a 4.0?
will the adcoms see it like that?
or is the 4.0 worth more then the 90~93?
because the 4.0 means its perfect and a 90~93 means that there could be improvment.

90-93 is probably 3.67 or so-- A- average.

WOW...so a 4.0 is straight 100s? I don't know how it works either...my school grades out of 100.

I wouldn't know for sure since my school doesn't do GPA's, but typically, if A+'s aren't possible at your school, then most likely 93-100 or 94-100 is a 4.0 unweighted and a 90-93 is 3.7ish. For weighted w/AP or IB classes, add 1.0 to that.

Each school is different, so why not go ask your guidance counselor for the exact details at yours?

4.0 often isn't perfect, even on unweighted scales. The theoretical maximum unweighted GPA (perversely, someone at my school once accomplished this) is a 4.33 on many scales-- that is, straight A+s.

Wow fiddlefrog, what qualifies as an A+?

beth why are you still up? why am I still up? Oh yes- cuz I stopped sleeping like 3 weeks ago.

My school counts anything from a 90 to 100 as a 4.0.

in my school an A is 4.0 and A- is a 3.65
we have no A+

under your system I'd have a 4.0--> I've gotten two A-'s once in eighth grade math and once in tenth grade math. and it sucks because they were both 94s and under most systems a 94 is an A  :(

Well it's entirely possible (probable?) that Yale will "deflate" my GPA. I hope not, though.

i hope they just inflate mine:)

Anything A- and up is 4.0 here.

Now I feel my school is harsh:

95-100 = A = 4.0
91-94 = A- = 3.7

A+ doesn't exist here.

90-100 is an unweighted 4.0 at my school as well.

It really depends on your school.... ask your counselor

coughgradeinflationcough

That's unfair. I wouldn't call it grade inflation. I also don't think it's something to worry about. Yale is going to be able to look at transcripts and realize that different schools calculate GPA's differently. No one will have it counted against them if their school calculates their GPA differently from another school. That's why the transcript is what Yale considers to be the most important factor in admissions, not the GPA.

man....you guys havent seen my school....our A- is 92-94...A is 95-97....A+ is 98-100....i have a few 90s in AP classes and they dont even count as As!!!

My school is hard as hell but at least they give us leeway with the GPA. Basically, an 88+ is a 4.0.
Cool, right?

Wow, that's awesome.

my school sucks
