.999...=1 btw

just wanted to make it clear.

yeah my teacher tried to convince me of that. It's a conspiracy.

1/9=.11111111111111
2/9=.22222222222222
3/9=.33333333333333
4/9=.44444444444444
5/9=.55555555555555
6/9=.66666666666666
7/9=.77777777777777
8/9=.88888888888888
9/9=1? .9999999999?

Yeah...like 7/9 eventually goes.7777777(however many 7s)8

and so on...

x = 0.9999999999...
10x = 9.999999999...
9x = 9.000000000...
x =1.000000000....

x=.999999...*10=9.99999.....=10x
10x-x=9x=9
x=1

LOL physicslover. We have the same idea.

How do you make 2 = 0?

Cool stuff. I used to know how to make 1=0 back in like seventh grade. I've forgotten since then.

x + 2 = x
-x -x
2 = 0

actually. .999 = .999, not 1.
4/4 =1
748384575/748384575=1
but not .999 :)

5/9 + 4/9 = 9/9
5/9 + 4/9 = .55555 + .44444 = .99999

.'. 9/9 = .99999

Nope actually.

The 1=2 thing that someone brought up:
Let us have 2 integers a and b such that a=b

a = b
aa = ba (Multiply both sides by a)
a^2 = ab (Restatement of same thing)
a^2 - b^2 = ab - b^2 (Subtract b^2 from both sides)
(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b) (Break into factors)
(a+b) = b (Divide by a-b)

So we have a+b = a, even though a = b. So if a = b =1, you have 1 + 1 = 1, or 2 =1.

Of course, it takes about 5 seconds till you see the hole in the whole thing. I'll let you figure it out, though. :p.

you are dividing by 0. good idea tho

(x+y)(x-y)/(x-y)=x+y
(x^2-y^2)/(x-y)=0, when x^2-y^2=0 ->when x=y=1, 1^2-1^2=0
btw, if x=y=1, x+y=1+1=2
therefore 0=2

messed up..lol

Haha yeah. You can't divide by 0. But most people don't catch that. :p

yeah... .999 does not = 1...it doesnt. honestly its kind of silly to even contemplate it.

Haha, I remember how the .999...= 1 thing made me dizzy when I first came across it.

Keep in mind that they mean .9999999999 with an infinite number of 9's. I bet we're just calculating a limit or something, but I'm not in a Calculus mood right now.

1+1=11 (10 chars).

LOL. This will work for any number. Basically anything can end up equal to zero. HAHA.
