9th grade GPA

I heard all UC does not consider grades in high school freshman year (9th grade) during admission. Is that true? I heard different stories, just to confirm…

9th grades are not included in the UC GPA calculation (only 10-11th) but you still need to pass your UC a-g course requirements to apply. You also have to report these grades on the UC application.

Thanks a lot.
I have further questions I hope you can help me. I was reading Berkeley freshman profile from Berkeley website and the average GPA is 4.xx. Is that calculated from 10-11th grade only? If I check on Naviance all students admitted by Berkeley from my high school, their GAP were from 10-11th grade only or all 4 years?

It is 10-11th grades with extra honors points for UC approved Honors classes (CA schools), AP/IB/DE courses taken during this time. UCB and UCLA use capped weighted UC GPA (limit 8 honors points) and fully weighted UC GPA (unlimited honors points) so their average is in the 4.4 range.

Here is how the GPA is calculated.

You would have to ask your counselor about what GPA is used for Naviance since each schools reporting will vary.
UC website data unless specifically stated uses UC capped weighted GPA.
