Hi I am a 9th grader and have a few questions. The first is do colleges care more about sat scores than they let on because I have heard that they try to play it off as not THAT big of a deal but it actually is a pretty big deciding factor. Another question I have is that I took all cp classes this year and regret that. I thought that it would be good for improvement but now I am taking 2 science classes next year to catch up. I also had to decide to take 2 sciences over 2 math classes because there are not enough classes and you cannot take algebra 2 with pre calc cause they are basically the same thing with limits so it would be confusing. The first semester I also did not care too much about my grades and had pretty terrible grades (83 being lowest and only 85 average). I am basically wondering if I can still get into a good college. I want to be a program dev so am focusing on maths and sciences and kinda taking iteasy with english french and history. Should I take those courses in honors? What else can I do to get advanteges in college too? I am planning to get a very good sat score because I test well. My last question is any good suggestions for colleges based on what I said. I honestly stress about this so much and I don’t get why people say not too because It is literally your entire future. I always lived by: suffer for a little to get long term gains. Thanks guys
Start by reading a few books with overviews of the college admissions prep and process. It’ll take your stress down while also filling in a lot of the knowledge gaps you might have now.
Both SAT scores and GPA usually count heavily for most types of majors.
- Most colleges care most about your GPA (Not entirely based on how high it is), but ACT and SAT scores do play a big part in the acceptance process.
- I'm not sure what CP classes are... But if you got a B in 2 classes, you should still be able to get into some pretty good colleges, but you need to keep up with work and try for all A's or maybe just a few B's.
- In my school, Honors courses don't weigh the same as AP courses do, but if you take them and manage to pull off an A, colleges will like that.
- Make sure to be active in your school, colleges like seeing good EC's on your application.
- There are hundreds of schools with that major, and you didn't really give us any information on what kind of school you're looking for.
