I was accepted to SEAS with a $76000 scholarship for 4 yrs :P...but 12% acceptance rate this yr?! That is crazy! Almost Ivy like!! Is this wrong or what? Is GWU really this competitive and good?

You're right. That is insane. Almost like Duke this year. They had a similar acceptance rate.

Where did you read about a 12% acceptance rate?

The acceptance letter said something about 19,000 applicants for a freshman class of 2 thousand something, but i'm sure they admit about twice as many people as actually attend, and possibly more.

Where did they release this data?!

I wouldn't be surprised.

I wouldn't trust any data on here unless someone has a link to the Admissions office or any university website (not student, but official). While I do not want to deter excitment from the possibilty of such a low acceptance rate, it just doesn't make sense mathematically and historically GW aims for a 37% rate and has even stated that is their aim in the Hatchet for this year.

Yes, 19000 applications for 2000 spots. If they had a 100% yield they would need to only accept 2000 applicants. Obviously, GWU needs to accept at least 2-3x that many applicants to fill the class. Many accepted students will choose to attend other schools.

I would bet that a more realistic # of acceptances is somewhere between 5550 and 6500.

well this is from the acceptance letter..."You should feel especiall proud of your accomplishment as the competition this year was particularly rigorous. The University's freshman class of 2350 was chosen from over 19,000 applicants".

Exactly my point. 2350 students will make up the class of 2010. They received 19000 applications. In order to fill the class with 2350 students they need to accept at least 5000 students since some will reject the offer and attend other schools. The acceptance rate is not 12%. Only the most selective schools in the country have an acceptance rate of 12%.

Hopeful is right.

Yeah, its going to be in the high 20's or low 30's. Thats my guess.

i concur with numberone

Actually they accepted 36% of their applicants this year http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12175522/

thanks for the web site Andy!!
